just got my acceptace too : )

Accepted with $17000! Not my first choice but awesome anyway.

Hi all. My d got a deferral letter pending submission of her grades for the current semester. Not her absolute first choice school but a definite contender so we’ll see. I see some of the scholarships posted here and congrats to all of you! Silly question maybe but can you confirm if those awards are per year or over 4 years? (We’re obviously new to the process). D did get accepted to Loyola Chicago with $30,000 (over 4 years) and we were excited about that number! Just want to compare–and see if we should be more depressed than we are so far. :-0

The numbers are per year. Son’s $16K is worth $64K over four years.

Okay, now I’m depressed. Sort of.

Submitted on dec 5th for ea 2. Gears back today. Accepted with 15k a year. not going.

Tango congrats on your daughter’s acceptance to loyola Chicago.

Thanks, Casa. I think we expected opposite results but there’s a lot to be said for both schools so I think she’ll be fine. Will still see what Willamette says but Loyola has a Mock Trial team and that’s her forte. :-)

Tangosmom, sounds like Loyola would be great with the Mock Trial possibilities, and Chicago has a lot to offer. Deferral does not mean rejection, and many accepted early at Willamette will choose to go elsewhere and used Willamette as a great school to attend if they don’t get into their reach school(s). So, it will be important to keep the grades up and let them know of continued interest.

Casablancama, did you get accepted somewhere that you are planning to go over Willamette? I know you probably have not heard from all possibilities, but you seemed square you would turn down Willamette, so I was wondering which school you got into that you prefer.

I haven’t been accepted anywhere else yet. I got deferred at Cornell. My parents won’t let me attend a liberal arts school

Thanks, Anxiety. I agree with you that Loyola could be great for her as well. I try to be one of those people who usually believes things work out for the best in most cases…and all those other corny “make lemonade” slogans. I know D still has a shot at Willamette, although wouldn’t you know she’s having some medical issues (thyroid stuff) that have kept her out of class 9 days this semester and so she may not have the stellar mid-year grades she was trying for. I think she and I are just reacting to the first “not-a-yes” response more than we should. This has been a crazy experience so far…and your username suggests you get that. LOL

Tangosmom, yes I get it. However, having an acceptance at a good school should help a lot.
Casablancama, why did your parents let you apply? Perhaps they were hoping for a full scholarship. Have you applied to enough schools overall? No matter how good one’s credentials are, there’s a lot of chance in the process, so it’s best to apply to some schools where you are pretty likely to be accepted in addition to the reach schools. It’s all very stressful!

I applied because I wanted to see what happens. My parents arent familiar with liberal arts schools an in their opinion UC irvine is better than Amherst or Pomona because of name recognition

My son turned down UC San Diego to attend Willamette, where he is now a sophomore. He wanted to double major in English and Japanese, and he wanted the small classes Willamette provides. We supported his decision, but every family is different.

Yeah. Well I have too brothers that currently attend Berkeley so I think my parents are trying to get me to go there as well. But the chances of me getting into ucla or Berkeley are pretty slim.

*two
Not too
Grammar fail

Accepted. I didn’t even know I would be considered for the Leadership merit award (despite receiving many emails asking me to apply with the Leadership application).

It’s nice to know that I have an option now! Congratulations to all the Leadership award recipients.

Tangosmom, has D considered Parliamentary debate? Willamette has a well funded Worlds debate team. They pay for seniors to debate in China their senior year. The Director of Forensics is Robert Trapp and it would be worth talking with him about it, you might get a few thousand dollars more. My daughter got her BA and is getting her MBA in only 5 years. Loves the school. The on campus health clinic is a gem and she has been a frequent visitor.

Hey parents, would ya’ll happen to know how the community is for queer students?

YAY! I just got my acceptance letter in the mail and a 13,000 scholarship. I really want to go if my parents let me . Good luck everyone and feel free to ask me anything :)
