William and Mary American history program?

Hi!
I’m a high school junior who is extremely passionate about US history, and it’s my intended major. I did a program at Brown University last summer, but I am interested in William and Mary as well
I know they have a program for American history too but it is 3 weeks and I don’t know if I’ll be able to get a summer job if I am gone for three weeks.
There is, however, another American history course at Brown that is only two weeks.

So my question is: will my application to William and Mary( or other colleges) be significantly stronger if I do the program at William and Mary over the one at Brown? Will it look bad if I go to Brown twice? Does anyone have other info about the program at W&M?

This might be kind of a late reply.

Personally, I would ditch your job if you would rather go to W&M than Brown. If dropping your job isnt an option, just apply to both and go to the one that you are able to. Universities dont care where you go.

I can’t say if your application would be stronger, but my friend’s D, who was totally a STEM kid, did the W & M history program and loved it.

Everything I’ve heard/read about summer programs say that they are a very minor part of your application, at best. It mostly shows interest, which you can do via a visit or other easier/cheaper ways. They know that these summer programs are only an option for a small portion of applicants (i.e. those that can afford them) and weight them accordingly lightly for the app. Do what you are interested in, and can afford, not what looks good on the app. If you go to Brown twice, it shows that you really liked it and/or really like history. It doesn’t work against you, as long as you can show your interest for WandM in other ways on your app which should be easy!

Can u tell me why you liked the Brown course? We are thinking about doing it. Also have you looked at any other history options for the summer… they are hard to find. Can’t go to W&M.

sorry for my very late reply! I loved the Brown course. You have a class (or possibly two) for 3 hours every day and the rest of the time to do work and explore the campus, which is really nice and the people are very nice. The campus is beautiful, etc. I did a course on the American Revolution and really loved it. Haven’t looked at any other options because they are so hard to find but I’d definitely recommend Brown.
