Is April 16th the only day for admitted students? Unfortunately, we’ll be away that week and won’t be able to attend. Of course we will visit, but should we just go on a regular tour?

W&M, LOVED the “good things”!! THX
I have a question though, is it true that there are very very few Asian students?

Yes, what happens if we won’t be able to attend admitted students day on the 16th… is there another? Or should we just visit at a random time?

I haven’t received an e-mail from W&M. I got an ‘attention needed’ e-mail in February because somehow my transcript hadn’t arrived. I sent a copy of it in the mail shortly afterwards, but haven’t heard anything from W&M since…
It’s really not a big deal, as I’d be absolutely shocked if I got in, but it’d be awkward to explain to my parents that I didn’t technically apply because the transcript was never successfully sent.
(Or maybe the e-mail will arrive yet?)

I sent my transcript in mid February and I got the email at the same time as everyone else.

Don’t they email you if you actually got rejected, though?

I’ll be the millionth person to thank W&M Admission, for the CC posts, blog, twitter, facebook, cool acceptance email etc. I have a lot of choices and I’m still not sure how high on my list W&M is, but I’ll remember the helpful admission staff when I make my final decision.

Out of curiosity, W&M Admission, what was the official acceptance rate this year? How about for out of state students? I’m really excited that I got in and I was just wondering how tough it was this year.

omg i know, the email was adorable. it made me smile for sure

W&M Admissions, would I’ve received an e-mailing saying that you were no longer waiting for my transcript, if it never arrived?

My daughter had heard from 6 of the 10 schools she applied to; all acceptances but we fall in the cracks of the FAFSA system – don’t qualify for any aid but really can’t pay $50,000 a year for college. So having gotten NO aid from some of the schools and little (merit) aid from others, the only serious (financially feasible) contenders were Smith (giving her a good merit scholarship) and UVA (we are in VA so in-state tuition). However, she got The E mail at 10:30 last night and now UVA is off the list and it’s between Smith and William and Mary. Being in-state W&M is a great financial option, and a great school of course regardless. She’s loving Smith too though, so we’ll visit both and see what strikes her as the right place to go. She has always loved W&M…so it’ll be largely up to the sell on the admitted student days for both schools. I’m sure she didn’t sleep last night, she was so excited. I think she didn’t want to think about W&M because we know how tough it is to get in these days, even from in-state.

Does anyone know when the admitted students day will be? We need to cover a lot of ground over the next month and I would like to start planning.

Admitted students day is April 16th! So not much time to plan, especially if you are from out of state.

^Should not have planned a vacation for that week. Didn’t realize the admitted student days would be all in that time frame.

Also, when will the packets be sent in the mail? Thanks!

Strengths: I’d say I’m a pretty well-rounded kid, and i really think that helped me with W&M’s holistic process.

Weaknesses: Probably standardized testing, I did alright, but not stellar. Same thing with my GPA.

Why you think you were accepted/deferred: As i said, the holistic process definitely helped me out. Researching, Eagle Scout, Varsity Baseball Captain, Self taught guitarist, Leadership Pillar of National Honor Society etc., really offset whatever i lacked in grades.

Congratulations to all other acceptees, I’m sure you earned it :).

Congrats to everyone who got accepted. I love William and Mary and I want to do engineering. Are there any programs available? I heard of the 3:2 program but it was vaguely explained.

Whew. Lots of questions to answer since we visited this thread yesterday. Okay, here we go.

First congratulations to all those admitted and thanks again for the kudos on the “Good Things” email, which we love by the way, and for the kudos for our presence on this site.

Okay, question one was about the percentage of Asian students on campus. About 25% of our undergrad self-identify as students of color (Asian, Native American, African-American, Hispanic) and about 9% of our students self-identify as Asian.

If you cannot attend Day for Admitted Students (on Saturday, April 16) we have three myWM Monday programs on April 4, April 11, and April 25. More information about these programs is on the welcome site (which you’ll get the URL for in your admit pack). During this program admitted students shadow a current student for the day (go to classes, lunch, etc) while parents meet with current student, administrators, and financial aid reps to learn more about W&M. A tour for all concludes the program.

We do email all applicants, regardless of decision. If you have not received a decision email check your spam/junk folders thoroughly. If still no email, contact our office at 757-221-4223 so that we can attempt to re-send the information.

We release statistics on the incoming class in mid April but our admit rates don’t vary much from year to year (last year we admitted 33% of our applicants and 27% of out-of-state students).

The admit packs went in the mail yesterday morning (March 29) so they should be arriving in the coming days.

We do have a 3:2 and a 4:2 program in engineering. You spend either 3 or 4 years at W&M getting a BS in physics/chem/bio/comp sci (based on what type of engineering you’d like to pursue) and two years at either RPI or Columbia getting a second BA in engineering (in the case of the 3:2 program) or a masters (in the case of the 4:2 program).
