I heard that W&M is a really liberal campus. I've also heard that it has a large (openly) homosexual community. Is there any truth to these rumors? If so, could someone describe to what extent they are true (examples of related student organizations, activities, awareness days, etc.)
Thanks in advance

well you might find more of a response on the W&M fourm, but i'll respond here.

W&M is not really liberal. It seems like a pretty moderate campus to me, though there are definitely more people who lean liberal, it is a college, afterall. While I say that W&M is not what I would call really liberal, I would call W&M very tolerant. This ridiculous anti-abortion group came to campus this semester, and they were met very harshly. Some other VA college students can probably chim in about their experiences with this group (they went on a tour of VA colleges this fall). Here's their website: http://www.lifeandlibertyministries.com/ Check the fetus truck on the right side (they like to call it "the truth truck"). I believe the police sent the truck away.

And then there was this guy on campus (not a student), not sure if he was with the above group or not, but he had a huge sign that said "you're all going to hell" and he had a megaphone and was explaining how you shouldn't go to college because you already know what god wants you to know. He was getting kinda owned by the students who were walking by. The police took him away.

There are homosexual groups on campus, like lambda alliance. This semester they sold shirts that said "gay? fine by me" and they were pretty popular with the students. There was a day when everyone wore them, and there were a lot of them out. They also sit in the UC sometimes with information and such. I don't know how big the homosexual population is, but the rest of the campus is quite accepting.
