When do they usually notify people about this? What GPA usually constitutes top 5% I know these are rather obscure questions so any input would be great. Thanks!

the date on my transcript says 3/15/2009. i got an email about it on 2/25/2009 at 1 PM.

i may or may not have heard about it earlier when a friend told me–he read about it in the michigan daily. the only one of my friends that got it that didn’t have a 4.0 had a 3.94. ummm… i only knew the gpas of 5 of my friends on the list.

what a ■■■■■■■■ prize. I am sure it’s just as difficult to get a “top 5% gpa” in psych or polsci as it is in engineering or physics…

if that is true, bearcats, i agree. however, i’m not so sure it is true. the award states that it is for students who rank in the top 5% of their class–not for those who are merely in the top 5% according to gpa–so course rigor and other factors are probably taken into account. considering the fact that my friends and i all are math/hard science guys taking fairly advanced courses, i’d be inclined to think that factors other than gpa are taken into account.

no, they only take into account gpa.

So apparently UROP is rather silly and won’t give us our credits until the end of the year, which means I’ve only received 13 out of the 17 credits I took this semester.

Does this disqualify me or no?

to clarify, it’s top 5% in YOUR CLASS. which is divided between LSA, Engineering, art, music, etc.

i got it freshmen year with a 3.92

feathr, what is your major?

im in the bschool

do you guys think a 3.91 is good enough? I’m in lsa

Unless you have a 4.0, I doubt you’ll be getting this scholarship.

Crono, actually read the thread before posting.

Lo and behold, you don’t need a 4.0! Thanks again for that extremely useful and well-informed tidbit of information Crono :)…oh wait.

Doubt being the operative word, yet again. Thank you for your keen eye for semantics and well-mannered retort… oh wait.

Seriously man, quit being such a dick. My friend from two years ago had a 3.98 and didn’t get this scholarship. In fact, he didn’t get any academic scholarship. Another friend of mine this year, who has a 3.95, also hasn’t gotten any scholarships from U of M, and traditionally, only 4.0 students or, in some instances, those with schedules having greater rigor will be considered. So now that my response is longer-winded and pedantic, you gonna stop being such an ass? :/

^
LOL
you obviously didn’t read the thread correctly.

Brilliant reading comprehension skills Crono. Bravo.

sorry but this makes me chuckle.

ahaha…

You definitely don’t need a 4.0 to get this. I got it with a 3.925 back in the day.

yea… the prize isnt even that big of a deal lol
