William & Mary/ St. Andrews Joint Degree Programme

Hi! I was wondering if anyone had any idea of the number of people who applied to the William and Mary Joint Degree Programme with St. Andrews. They only accept 5-7 people per major, and I am applying to the most competitive major (international relations) so I’m trying to figure out if I have a realistic shot of getting into the program. Thank you!

Hey Clairel2000!

According to the admissions officers, roughly 350-400 students applied to the joint degree program as of last year. That number tends to vary per year and likely has increased with the addition of the new majors being offered. If you think about it though, that is a very small fraction of all students that apply to W&M and it tends to be a very self-selected group.

That said I applied to the William & Mary and St. Andrews Joint Degrees program a couple of years ago for international relations, fully not expecting to get in, and after a couple of months I not only got into William & Mary but also the joint degree program.

Also I think they do end up accepting a little bit more than 5-7 people per major, but those are just the number of people that end up matriculating. Don’t give up hope! Alas even if you don’t get into the joint degree program, there will be plenty of opportunities to study abroad and get similar experiences. Best of luck!
