Williams Early Decision for Fall 2022 Admission

When my son applied RD to Williams last year I thought all those same things and gave him a 0% chance of being accepted. He was not selected for WOW, we had not visited, no interview, nothing. In February, he was asked to submit a writing sample from an English or History class, so I bumped his chance up to 5%. He was accepted RD from a public HS that had never sent a student to Williams. He found out a few days later that another student had also been accepted. Today they are both Ephs 2025. I guess what I am getting at is you can not compare Williams admissions to other colleges. I donā€™t know what they are looking for, but from my experience it is not a statistical science game, or who you know, or where you went to school. Congratulations to those accepted ED and the very best of luck to those in the RD pool you are obviously phenomenal candidates and Williams would be lucky to have you :cow:.

Just curious, did she try for Amherst or Bowdoin also?

Sheā€™s applied to Amherst and Pomona in RD, but her first choice still is Williams.

Best of luck! (Iā€™m only watching this page for my twin, not myself)

Still waiting, obviously - randomly got an acceptance from Trinity this past Monday night. Out of the regular decision timeline (so she panicked and thought she had checked early something), just appeared. Good news for having somewhere to go! Hope it bodes well for Williams RD and the others.

Congratulations! I bet this is the first of several acceptances. Your D is an impressive candidate.

Congratulations! Itā€™s the first and I am sure there are many more to come. As we wait for RD decisions, My DDā€™s counselor told us that a good enough student will have a happy ending. I wish the best ending for your daughter.

Weā€™re in the same boat @Acccdad - sending the best wishes to you and your daughter as well. Both of them will end up somewhere wonderful, Iā€™m sure!

any idea when RD decisions will be released? and congratulations!

For now it appears most NESCACs are saying April 1st. I saw 3/20 for Amherst somewhere but canā€™t remember where.

I just looked at my calendar, they released last year on Thursday March 25th.

Yes, weā€™re in the same boat , and the wait is almost over(arenā€™t we glad?). I donā€™t know if your daughter also applied to Amherst which will also release the decision on Friday. I know we still have two more weeks to go, but weā€™re almost there. Wish the best of luck to you and your daughter.

Iā€™m pretty sure Amherst is releasing in 2 days on 3/18 6:21 PM. Williams is also releasing RD 3/18.

Williams just WL my DS after deferring him in December. It definitely stung, as it was his top choice, but he spent the interim months applying to other colleges and falling in love with others. Within an hour of getting his WL at Williams, he got into Bowdoin on practically a full scholarship. Heā€™s always loved Bowdoin and it was a tough choice to decide which one to ED to in the first place. He still has reach schools to hear from in the coming week; so we are not fully decided. But he is feeling happy and valued for his hard work and accomplishments. So, I guess it all worked out just fine.

I hope your students found better luck at Williams this time around; or they soon find their perfect school elsewhere.

Iā€™ll note one thing. Every school that required a supplemental essay and interviewed my son, so far, has offered him admission with generous awards. He found the lack of essay and interview a disadvantage at Williams. He could never explain why Williams. And frankly, it seems, they didnā€™t much care to get to know him either.

Iā€™m sorry for the WL, but congratulations on Bowdoin, what a fantastic school! Williams and Amherst both got rid of interviews several years ago, but this was the first year that Williams didnā€™t have an optional supplemental essay, just the option to submit a paper. I wonder if theyā€™ll stick with that decision. I think itā€™s a shame.

Thank you. He is just not meant to go to Williams. But heā€™s set to go to a great school he feels good about. It all worked out in the end. I hope it does for everyone. The process has gotten so toxic the biggest risk is if talented hard working students leave the process feeling less than or take it personally.

Agree it was tough for kid to show much love to Williams after they scrapped the supplementals from prior years. Was a rejection yesterday for my kid, with WL for both Pomona and Amherstā€¦I think difference was ability to say more about herself in supplemental questions/essays. Like you, I also wonder whether they liked the process with just the class essay submission. Didnā€™t other schools recently scrap their request for classroom essay (maybe Brown?) Princeton still has it IIRC. Could be wrong so correct me if facts are mistaken. Luckily she had one yes yesterday. Congrats to accepted kids! Williams is gorgeous, loved visiting there decades ago.

Bowdoin is such a great school-- we visited the school over the summer and I loved everything about it. One of my good friendā€™s son is a sophomore there and has had the best experience. Sadly it is not me that is going to college! Congrats to your son.

Bowdoin is an incredible school! Congrats! I hope he loves it there.

Hi! Iā€™m not sure if youā€™re still on CC, but my son applied ED to Williams and I was wondering if your son did wind up going to Williams? I have a few questions and was wondering if I could email you? Thanks so much!
