Williams ED Chance Request

  • Academic Rating: Low 2/High 3
    • SAT: 1470 (680 English, 790 Math, 17 Writing)
    • ACT: 33 (36 English, 35 Math, 31 Reading, 28 Science, 9 Writing)
    • Strength of Curriculum: My high school was ranked 13th best private high school in the country by Niche this year. All the classes are honors/accelerated. We don't have APs or rank students. I took the hardest classes possible. Out of ~130 kids, 4 went to Williams, 1 to Amherst, 2 to Harvard, 2 to Yale, 1 to Princeton, 1 to Stanford, 1 to Dartmouth, 2 to Cornell, ~4 to Columbia, 1 to Oxford, 2 to Duke, 2 to Vanderbilt, ~5 to Notre Dame ~13 to Georgetown, ~5 to BC, ~10 to Fordham. I'm not sure where kids in my rank last year went to college. GPA often doesn't coincide with success in college admissions at my school; I know one kid with a 3.5 GPA got into Williams.
    • UW GPA: 3.76
    • Approximate Rank: ~Top 25%
  • Admission-affecting ECs: I am not being recruiting for this sport, but my team lost in the state final twice in a row. I will try to--and probably can--walk on to the Varsity team. I don't know if this even helps.
  • Nationality: American
  • Race: White Hispanic
  • Family Income: ~$1,000,000 per year (probably a little less, my parents won't give me a number)
  • Parents' Backgrounds:
    • Dad: Yale Undergrad, Harvard Law; Lawyer/Partner at his own small firm
    • Mom: U Albany Undergrad, BC Law; Leader of a cyber security team at a major company

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to College Confidential, @Pablo13.

At this point, you have submitted your ED application and it is out of your hands. There is nothing to be learned from this chance thread that could help with any future action with your ED application.

Congratulations on your achievements in high school!

Your statistics not atypical of those of students accepted to Williams. So, yes, you have a good chance. But no poster here has a crystal ball and call tell you what the admissions officers will think of your entire, complete application in comparison to those of other applicants.

So, for now, all you can do is wait. You will hear in about two weeks.

My advice in the meantime, FWIW? Spend some time getting excited about any rolling or early action acceptances you already have, and work on RD applications to other schools including good match and safety schools. Keep an open mind. If you get into Williams, you still will be thrilled, but if you are deferred or rejected, it won’t feel like the end of the world because you will have reminded yourself that there are many great possibilities on your college list.

Good luck!

Thanks! I know everything is out of my control; I’m just really nervous. I’ll listen your advice.
