Thanks, it is not easy, even when you know the odds she still was vested. Thanks for the advise, I will have her send a letter of continued interest.
Congrats from another NYC/Eph mom!
My daughter was deferred. She never had a chance to take the SAT or ACT due to closures. I wonder if that could be a reason. Her father went to Dartmouth, yet she decided Williams was the best fit for her. She still believes that. I suppose she will end up at the right fit for all.
My D21 submitted test scores that were above the 25-75 range and she was deferred, so for her it was not the reason. I just think that there are so many athletes, legacy, and institutional priorities that once those spaces are filled there are not many spaces left. I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall to know what they liked and what they felt was not as strong about her application.
D21 applied TO and that had me overwrought with anxiety. There’s no way to know what the magic is and it changes for each year. D18 is at Amherst and she has said that there the kids are aware that each class has a distinct feel. That gave me pause. They really do build a class holistically and it looks different from year to year.
@Heppymom crossing my fingers that the Spring will provide good news for your daughter.
Congratulations - Tusks Up!!
Your daughter has an interest in studying psychology, correct? I wouldn’t have posted anything at an earlier stage to deter her from her choice of Williams, but she probably could find better options for the study of psychology. The deferral may not seem ideal, but it will create time for research into other colleges.
Agreed, there are so many great LACs out there with similarly strong academics and co-curricular experiences; also, with COVID, Williams may go deeper in the RD round.
your new avatar!
My D got deferred.
Have to prepare for other RD then
Williams never releases their admission data. Have no idea about how many legacy, athletes, etc. It looks so random. If I had knew that, I would encourge her to apply some school of larger scale.
Also consider ED2 at Middlebury, Pomona and Swarthmore, they are still accepting applications.
Yes, I guess that is the silver lining. She knew there are stronger programs in psychology but she fell in love with Williams. As much as she like psychology there is so much she has not been exposed to so it would not surprise me if her interest change. I think she is starting to get past the disappointment and thinking about other schools.
Also, she might want to send a personal letter to her admissions officer, with COVID, the RD round may be hard to predict this year and increase her chances.
@gotham_mom I had to search high and low, but for now I think this satisfies the prob!
Looks great, perhaps flip the W and the A?!
Well, I have to say when we all gathered around to read the decision, there was no confetti! Who does that?! They waited until after accepting the offer to send it. So they too will have to wait
Got it, in any case, great to see your family joining the Eph ranks!
Interesting article in the Williams Record on being on campus in December:
When are the rest of the students coming back to campus?
