<p>Hi everybody, I'm just trying to pass on this tradition of posting application status. For previous decision notification threads, please click the two links below.</p>
<p>The notification period written on the foster website is:
UW Natives November 6 (the first day of priority registration, next Wednesday, WOW)
Transfers December 1
The winter admission is very competitive one and roughly 50% of the applicants can be admitted, that's about 500~600. Within this range, 80% will be selected by index, by which is a percentage calculated by:
• Combined GPA (40%)
• Pre-application GPA (25%)
• Writing Skills Assessment (35%)
And the rest of the spots will be taken by a further examination of other components of your application. Like your improvement on grades, how your ps is written, etc. HOWEVER, please note that if you didn't pass the WSA test (getting a 3 or below), your application will be thrown away. I believe writing is not an issue for most of you, but international students should be alert of this.</p>
<h2>EXAMPLES I've heard </h2>
<p>I know a senior who is an ESL and when he applied for foster, his GPA was below 3. He got admitted! This can be a rare one but it could happen.
Last quarter, a friend of mine got in with a passing score of WSA, a 3.</p>
<h2>WHAT to expect</h2>
<p>If admitted, then congrats!
If pending, keep waiting, there's a very good chance that you've passed your WSA but the admission office is stilling looking through you application!
If denied, don't worry, I saw many people posted on this forum that they got admitted on their second try. Plus, the next application season is less competitive:) Talk with your adviser and think of multiple back-up plan. </p>

<p>marslove3 You are welcome! So cumulative gpa is your overall gpa in college, and pre-application is the average gpa for the prerequisite class. Here’s the website for the pre-app and pre-admission (those need to be taken during/before the quarter of application) courses and all the alternatives. Good luck and thanks for replying!!!

<p>marslove3 Right, just average the pre-application ones will be fine, because most people are still taking their pre-admission courses when they apply. I just went to the undergraduate office today. The front desk told me she heard the review was done, and the decision emails/letters are being prepared with wsa scores inside.</p>
<p>The first admission wave may reach us tonight, because this is the first weekday of the week, in which notification should be out. There are several ways to check your status online instead of sitting around and waiting for the life changing email.
On your myuw frontpage, the line under your tuition balance is your major status. You can see your major there. Mine is still: intended: Business Administration.
Open unofficial transcript and see your college and major there. For example, mine says college of arts and science, pre major.
There’s a tool called Faculty/Staff/Student Directory on your myuw frontpage, if you type your type in the searching area, you can see a brief result of yourself as a student. Click more, there’s your year and current major.
The above three are pretty similar, all about the major status.
Go to the “apply now” page of Foster UAG and log in with your account (facebook, Gmail, etc.), and you will reach a page with your submitted application’s current status. It has your ID and the status of the application. For now, mine still displays “in review.” I think it might change to “accepted” or “rejected/declined” later. We’ll see.</p>

<p>@marslove3 I am curious about my wsa score too… But we have to wait for the decision letter. They’ll compare our statistics with the applied and admitted.</p>

<p>What do you guys think is a good first quarter business schedule? I’m thinking about taking IS 300 and I BUS 300 first…but idk what else. B Econ 300 seems hard… Do you guys know anything about which classes are have heavier and lighter work loads?</p>
<p>@yellowsmith, what’s your major? It all depends on it. In any case, it’s a good idea to start getting prereqs out of the way ASAP so that you don’t limit yourself in 400-level courses during your senior year.</p>
<p>IS 300 is a valuable class, but IBUS 300 can usually wait… It’s not a prereq for anything. I would start with Fin 350. Marketing is an easy course – just read and you’ll be fine as long as you can beat the curve.</p>
<p>BTW, congratulations everybody here. Start getting into various clubs and activities right away. Reach out to your advisers for recommendations. I didn’t do much until my second quarter and now regret it a bit.</p>

I had another question though (don’t know if I’m spamming the thread or not sorry) but is it better to take CMU 301 or ENGL 281 for the writing class? And any classes you don’t recommend taking in the same quarter?</p>
<p>It depends on your wants and needs BCMU 301 w/ HOCHBERG should be good. I doubt it would be writing-intensive though; there will be a good part of speeches, teamwork, and presentations. BCMU 301 with Dimeo is also interesting. Dimeo is a very good person and an interesting lecturer. It’s not writing-intensive at all. However, there are two speeches, a quarter-long team project and a presentation in the end. BCMU 301 is a very good class to get to know people (many of whom happen to be from the business school also, of course). However, it’s hard to beat the curve in this class. Every point counts.</p>
<p>I don’t know how it goes for marketing, but I wouldn’t recommend taking, say IBUS and MKTG 301 in one quarter because both of them involve a lot of reading. And so does MGMT 300. Also, try not taking classes with a lot of teamwork in one quarter: MGMT 300, IS 300, and, I believe, IBUS. Unless you have a lot of free time after school and meeting with your team won’t be a problem.</p>
<p>I do recommend taking Apurva Jain for OPMG 301 this Winter. He is a good teacher. The class doesn’t require a textbook. I spent on average 2-3 hrs/week on this class and got a very good grade.</p>
<p>@yellowsmith 5.5 in wsa? That’s amazing bro! You must write really good essays. I think we have pretty close stats on gpa. See you in foster next quarter! I scheduled an appointment at the end of next week (apparently the schedule is too full to fit me into anytime in between) and I am going to have my classes for winter figured out.</p>
