Hey everyone, I’m currently applying for Winter 2014 as an Industrial Engineer. I’m hoping to change majors to Mech Engineer because that’s actually what I want to do.
(For those who don’t know, you can only apply as an Impacted Major during Fall Admissions)

I’ve called CPP’s Engineering Dept and they told me what to do (ie finish specific classes with at least an x.x GPA and fill out a form and submit it by the 5th week of Spring). My question is: has anyone successfully done this? or What are the chances of me making it in?

P.S. The only req’s I would need to finish would be one or two (max) Math classes to submit the form.

Thanks

I’m not in the engineering department, but I do know that it is difficult to transfer into an impacted major. It sounds like you’re a new transfer? (Or not.) They usually don’t let you change majors until you’re done with your first year. But since you’re a transfer, they might make an exemption. Anyway, I hope your GPA for the last few quarters has been 3.5-4.0, and you’re aiming for 3.8-4.0 until you submit your papers. The higher your GPA, the higher chance you’ll be accepted. And you should pass your pre-reqs and any core classes with As. If you’re allowed to, I would also start taking some of the ME lower division classes (100, 101, etc) in the winter or spring to help with the transition. You’ll be able to jump into the level 200 classes the next year, so you wouldn’t be too behind (unless you don’t mind being a super-super senior).

You should estimate/take into account of how many incoming Mechanical Engineer there will be when you apply (fall 2014). Obviously, the more incoming freshmen in your department, the harder it is for you to get in.

Just keep your grades up. I think you’ll have a smooth transition. Good luck!
