Change of Major/Reapplication

Hey guys,

Just wondering if you guys could possibly administer some advice on my current situation. Here goes.

Until recently i was an enrolled student at Cal Poly Pomona. I started Fall 2009 as a Mechanical Engineering major. I continued school, (not doing exceptionally well) through the winter of 2011. I did not attend Spring or Summer quarter due to family reasons, and was expected to continue the Fall quarter of that year as to not be affected by Cal Poly Pomonas two quarter stop out period. My registration fees were paid, and i was scheduled to take classes. A day before i was scheduled to start classes i was informed that my funding was pulled and that i was going to be dropped from my classes. My classes were dropped and i was discontinued from the university due to being out for more than two quarters. I did not apply for a leave of absence due to the fact that i was certain i was going to attend the third quarter and avoid enrollment dismissal. I have had to reapply, but missed the Fall 2012 application deadline due to some poor research and misguided information. I have the chance to apply for Winter 2012 but cannot choose an impacted major which is exactly what Mechanical engineering is. I was planning on applying with a Manufacturing Engineering degree and then once enrolled switching my major back to mechanical. They share similar classes and i could continue on my Mechanical path until i am able to switch majors. Here are my questions. With regards to my situation would it be better to apply for Winter as a non impacted major and then change or wait until next fall and apply to Mechanical? Also the requirements for a major change to mechanical engineering for lower division students state that a 2.0 or higher is needed, however i was recently told that it has been raised to a 3.0. Can anyone confirm this and possibly give me some advice on how to approach this unfortunate situation. I have 73 units, and my GPA is a 2.68. Nothing to be proud of but with a little grade forgiveness and good grades i can definitely have my GPA above a 3.0 before next fall if i get accepted, which brings me to my last question. What criteria will they use to admit me this time around considering i have already attended, and is there a good chance i will be admitted again? I did not leave in bad standing by the way.

Thanks so much for your time....and sorry for the life story! I hope to hear from any of you. Is anyone else in this situation?
