Winter Break Stayover

I want to stay in LA for winter break...are there any options you guys can think of besides paying $500 to stay in a different dorm with no amenities?

Thanks!

Out of curiosity, what is the break period (i.e. from when to when) and are there alternative dorm options? My son’s at Cal and I remember they had to clear out of the dorms completely during winter break.

If it’s the same, and students are interested in staying in L.A., it might be something for me to bring up with the alumni association to see if there’s interest in getting alumni who live in the area (like me) to put up students over break. Let me know if that’s something that might be of interest, especially to us empty-nesters with spare rooms, who live close by.

That’s generous of you, UCLA77!
When I was a student, it was pretty common for kids to stay with friends who lived locally.

road trip? :D

Haha, I wish…I don’t have a car.

The break period is from December 11th (last final) to January 3rd. As far as I’m aware, we only have the option of staying on campus, albeit in a dorm that is not our own, for $500 without any sort of amenity. Since there are no meal plans during that time, not having a fridge (which I have in my own dorm room) would be difficult.

I would greatly appreciate it if this issue could be presented to the alumni association. As siliconvalleymom said, it would be extraordinarily generous if students wanting to stay in the city could work out something with alumni willing to offer rooms.

move your fridge in your dorm to your new dorm…

The break may be from dec. 11 to january 3 but the campus doesn’t close down until december 19. so you could stay until then as far as I know.

Wow, I just sent an email to AskHousing, and apparently if you aren’t in a hall, you can stay in your own building. For $500, I guess that’s doable!

I wonder how the housekeeping would work. You better keep it clean for a month until they come back!

i lived in a plaza last year and housekeeping didnt come at all to clean the bathrooms. when i came back, i was welcomed with lime (or some other mineral) deposits in the toilet.
