I wondered if that was grass or ground showing through the moguls. Caught some of the women’s qualifying round which was quite entertaining.
Really annoying that NBC is showing commercials during the actual opening ceremonies (sigh).
Normally we Tunnel Bear to watch live from a decent coverage somewhere. This time I’ll probably just turn it off and leave it off.
I feel for the athletes with all the politics and Covid involved.
I’m watching the opening ceremonies right now on Peacock. Pretty cool.
I ended up falling asleep last night and missed the pairs short program. I’ve been looking for a video recap and can’t seem to find one. The only one I did says that the content was unavailable. Anyone have any links or do you think it may be posted later?
PS. I hate the NBC olympic website - it’s awful!
I love what NBC is showing - great show from China. I just dislike that they’re tossing commercials in cutting out parts I’d like to see. We’re not at home to have much in other options at the moment.
I’m surprised they are showing so much figure skating this early - it seems to be a premier event of the winter Olympics and I don’t know that people will engage this early before the opening ceremonies (I know, technically this morning).
I held my breath when Nathan skated last night!
And now I’m off. NBC is putting their own political commentary in instead of showing the ceremony behind them.
There’s a reason I don’t watch NBC anymore and quit watching them for the Olympics eons ago. They’re crappy. So much is going on behind the people talking and they aren’t showing it. At least I have an off button.
I refuse to watch.
I went through NBC Sports app on my TV then had to log in through my TV provider- I am able to replay the 5 hours of figure skating from last night.
If you can get onto the app and you scroll down there is a replay section.
I’m just giving up on the Olympics due to NBC’s crappy coverage.
I enjoyed what we saw of China’s opening ceremonies, but not enough to deal with the political commentary NBC feels obligated to bring into it even while the show was on in the background (foreground being their talking heads) - and the commercials.
May all the athletes do their best with the best person winning!
I’m watching Peacock. I signed up just so that I can watch the Olympics. I don’t have cable. So far I’ve seen the opening ceremony and part of the team skating competition from yesterday. There was minimal commentary for the opening ceremony and absolutely none for the team skate. I can pause and come back to the team skate when I want. It’s great! There’s been no human interest stories yet. Yay!
I was watching the team skate on Peacock.
I have the closed captioning turned on as we have been binging Yellowstone.
There was no commentary you could hear but apparently the commentary from NBC shows up in the captioning.
It was weird with no crowd noise and no commentary. I see how it must feel to be skating.
How about we focus on the sports/events and NOT the general network unless you have a tip for watching.
The different sports themselves will have ups and downs but I hate to see this once every couple of years pleasure be a downer on this thread because “we hate the network!!”
The online content many times doesn’t have commentary. I am watching curling right now- team USA- there is commentary, but I find it helpful since curling is a sport that needs some explanation.
I think we all agree. Networks suck. that can’t be changed at least for these Games. So let’s just enjoy what we can!
I wouldn’t mind that type of commentary TBH - sports commentary, but honestly, I’ve put this thread on “normal” instead of tracking and don’t plan to follow it anymore. I’ve been spoiled with how I like to watch my Olympics - and there are other things around here I certainly can be doing (and enjoying), so y’all enjoy the games!
If I were in the tropics instead of waking up to -8, I would say heck with it!
Have a great time @Creekland and sit on the patio for me!
For whatever reason I can’t log in to my cable provider but at least NBC is showing some of the pairs right now.
Especially if you’re drinking beer when you are learning, like most in Wisconsin are doing. It was a Friday night activity in our town, like bowling.
This is a fairly new type of figure skating event, the team competition. They used to start with the men for a week, then do the dancing and pairs, then the women would be very close to the last day (the last Sat night?). They have to start very early now to get everything in.
Only so much ice time.
