So after recieving the worst SAT score I ever could’ve imagined, I embarked upon my 3 month journey of studying 3-4 hours a day. Every day sitting arduously hunched over my desk reading Erica Meltzer " The Ultimate Guide to SAT Grammar", "The Critical Reader, and solving thousands of tedious math problems that in my opinion have zero application to real life value rather than to weed out those not with a proclivity towards mathematics. Therefore, within this 3 month journey- which encompassed several occassions of empty tissue boxes and icecream cartons, I got myself prepared to give it another shot. However, to my dismay, guess what’s coming to Virginia this friday 1/22? You probally guessed it “Mother natures frosty 12 inches of snow”, which in Virginia means all schools are going to be cancelled for 1-2 weeks… I’ve busted my ass point for point from a 500 in CR to a 640 consistent practice test from a 540 Writing to a 720 Writing from a 540 Math to a 670 Math. I’ve devoted every ounce of energy my human flesh possesses and for what?, for this test to be cancelled and me offered a crack at the New SAT?. I’ve prepared so hard for an Aptitude test not an achivement test- how is this fair and what does collegeboard normally do about incliment weather interupting the test in certain locations. My biggest fear is that they won’t offer a makeup date because it is the last sitting of the old test, and that they merely will offer a refund or free opportunity at the March sitting, the NEW SAT sitting, the FIRST NEW SAT Sitting- which I so desperately yearn to avoid taking. Does anyone have any ideas or past experiences in what ETS and the collegeboard does in these circumstances? Also thank you for reading through my rant, I <3 Collegeconfidential.
@PsychicPanda2 I don’t think 12 inches of snow would cancel school for 1-2 weeks…just sayin’.
And have you looked here first?https://sat.collegeboard.org/register/sat-test-center-closings
Yep I’m in Maryland and will be so pissed if they don’t do a makeup exam in the old SAT format. Luckily, I doubt they will force us to take the new SAT as the collegeboard knows that the vast majority are taking the january test because it is their last shot at the old test.
Last year snow in PA affected my son’s January 2015 SAT. It was rescheduled for 2 weeks later. Although this is a different year given the transition to the new SAT, I would hope that the College Board would reschedule another sitting of the current SAT, not force students who had registered to either take a refund or sit for the new SAT. The College Board has had a lot of bad press lately and not allowing students a makeup with the current SAT format seems like a PR recipe for disaster.
If you look at the link for test center closings (https://sat.collegeboard.org/register/sat-test-center-closings) it appears they will be rescheduling the test for 2/20. Likely the old version.
My problem is that date conflicts with the Model UN conference in Baltimore. So I guess I’d have to take the refund.
Yup, my testing center just gave a phone call that we can take the refund or take it on 2/20 glad for one more month to prepare.
Does this mean we’ll get our scores late March too?
Oh boy. heres to hoping cb reuses an old practice test ive already done haha
