Winters at Skidmore

Can anyone comment what the winters are like at Skidmore? We are from Massachusetts so know what cold winters are like but trying to figure out how much worse is that area in terms of snow and cold. Thanks!

It’s no worse. I went to Union in Schenectady and grew up on Long Island. It might have been a little snowier in Schenectady (very close to Saratoga) but not by a large amount. It won’t be worse than Massachusetts.

Great, thank you!

It’s about the same as MA. Sometimes you get a mild one and sometimes a severe one. The worse is March - it never seems to end.

Not sure where you are in MA (I have friends in Worcester county and went to school in Boston) but I currently live less than 15 minutes from Skidmore. I think we have had milder winters the last few years, missing most of the coastal storms. I agree with @Empireapple because the worst is March, which seems to last forever.

My D handles the winters fine, coming from NJ. That said, the campus can get VERY icy, especially on the stairs. My D once told me a story of being so terrified trying to go down some completely ice-covered stairs one very cold night; the railing was also covered in ice so she sat down and very slowly scooted down the flight of stairs to continue where she was going. You’ll need warm boots with good traction, but it’s not horrible, especially relative to MA winters.

Thanks everyone, very helpful!
