On the Williams website it appears as if the wireless internet access for those with laptops is rather limited... is this really the case? i.e., are there not many places (it appears there are none outside) where you can sit down with your laptop and use internet access freely?

Both libraries, the CS building, and the student centers are currently wireless. The college is actively increasing wireless, and soon I believe the entire campus will be wireless.

When I came to Williams (I'm a sophomore) I was dissapointed by this, but I've found that it really doesn't matter much--there are cable ports everywhere you turn and wireless about anywhere you'd want it to be. Some people buy wireless routers for their dorm which I've considered but decided wasn't really necessary.

The lack of outdoor wireless internet has never troubled me. Most people agree that if it's nice enough to have your computer outside, it's much to nice to actually get any work done outside.

Laptops are more expensive than desktops, but more convenient because they move (...duh). Lots of people bring computers to the libraries, especially during midterms and finals. A laptop ties you to your desk (or a computer lab) when you want to work. Works for those who like to study in their rooms, but if you like to write papers in the library, it's less than ideal.

really? awesome. i think that would be quite convenient. do you have any info about this or is this just something that you've heard at one point or another?

bex, i see what you mean in how you explain that you don't really need outdoor wireless... that may indeed be the case. anyway, i'm probably planning on bringing a laptop to Williams (assuming that I come, and I'm leaning towards it now), so wireless is a nice luxury to have.

I can't wait to be able to bring my laptop to the little study cubbies in the bottom floor of the library and plug them in! :) Does anyone else know what I'm talking about?? :P

My daughter loves the monkey carrels, and uses them for all her self-administered exams. Total immersion, no distractions, corkboard all around to post little notes to yourself as you work. Some find them claustrophobic, some love them, but they are certainly unique!
