mine have been tearing through my gums for the past couple of weeks and they're still not all the way through.
I think i'll get em removed.

i got my top 2 wisdom teeth pulled out right after the end of 8th grade. i had general anesthesia so was asleep that whole time and just slept the rest of the day. but man, were the next two days bad. i fainted twice and puked a lot. not fun. hopefully i don't have to get the bottom ones taken out.

ps. i don't think it's that bad for most people. i probably just had a weird reaction.

One of my friends had a BAD reaction. The meds gave her lock jaw, she puked so much she lost 15 pounds, and she had cuts on the side of her mouth that looked like whiskers. EXTREME CASE tho so don't think it'll happen to you. Just interesting. (Most of those symptoms were reactions to meds...not the actual surg)

I was supposed to get 4 molars taken out for braces - the guy took 3 hrs (!)and on the fourth molar he told me to go to an oral surgeon b/c my teeth were too "adult" (I was 11). He was stingy on the novocaine - I kept telling him I could feel everything, and finally he told me he couldn't give me any more. I don't think he realized the agony I was in because I have a high pain tolerance and wasn't crying/screaming. To make matters worse, he didn't prescribe me any pain meds (or even antibiotics) for afterwards. I woke my brother up in the middle of the night on the other side of the house because I was screaming in my sleep out of pain. When I went to the oral surgeon for the fourth tooth, all I felt was a mild "zzzt" and it was out. I was furious. BTW, he was also stingy w/novocaine with my brother until he had a seizure-like reaction from the pain. (Not a real seizure, but it kinda looked like it.)

Now I have two molars growing horizontally and I have to get them removed, but this time it will require actual surgery and I'm freaking out.

I got my wisdom teeth removed and went under via laughing gas I think. I remember it was fun thinking that laughing gas was putting me to sleep. Anyway, I woke up later on, felt FINE, went out with a friend, drank something out of a straw (which the dentist said NOT to do for a few days) and within minutes I passed out and had a mouth full of blood. The straw sucking action re-opened the wounds in a bad way. I was swollen for DAYS. It sucked.

My advice: Listen to your dentists advice. :)

Have fun! It's not that bad! :)

I do not trust dentists/doctors at all. They can make mistakes. I always try to research the topic in question rather than going along with everything my doctor or dentist says.

I got mine out 3 days ago. I still can't eat, my teeth hurt so bad, and I have a massive headache. Prolong it as long as possible, and get meds that actually work!

There's such a large discrepancy between stories...it either seems like a hit or miss. hmmm I'm nervous...

aaghhh i was supposed to get mine out in like december but i purposely sheduled a bunch of stuff to avoid it =/
i take care of my teeth and i have no cavities, and i do it only because i fear the pain of getting something drilled into me.
i have like noooo pain tolerance. thankfully, my dentist didn't mention wisdom teeth last week when i went for a checkup!

My (subsequent) dentist told me it was so painful because my roots were so long. Apparently dentist #1 was absent from dental school when they taught how to read x-rays or he would have shipped me off to an oral surgeon straight away. The painful part isn't when the tops of my molars were snapped off - it was when he had to dig in to find all the pieces. Being stingy with the novocaine didn't help. If you don't have such long roots, I'm sure you'll be fine. If you do, get vicodin. Actually, just get vicodin anyways. And gas.
