Wisdom Teeth

I’m a freshman in high school and my dentist told me I should get my wisdom teeth removed. One of them has already erupted. My parents are planning to get my wisdom teeth removed this summer. Is there any reason to wait or should I just go ahead and get them removed? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Go ahead and get it done.

This is one of the most “popular” dental events at the academy…it’s one of the reasons we (long ago) used to call the facility: “The Dental Hobby Shop.”

I was genius enough not to get mine out. Now I have to suffer during a break or during the Academic year. Stupid.

slaps head

get them out now.
but matt, don’t worry…you’ll have plenty of support to get you through it here.

since one’s alreayd erupted and you’re still at least 3 years away, get it done now. many people get it done everntually any, so might as well do it before things get worse

Not on the subject of teeth, but is it still true that astronauts have to have their appendix (appendices?) out before they fly in space?

My twins, whose wisdom teeth are all erupted were told they’d take a “wait & see” approach" for each of them.

Just a reminder: do not have Lasik done if you plan to attend the academy!

matt, i got my wisdom teeth out on may 23 last year. you can do it! haha

Thanks for all the advice. I will get them removed this summer.

I would, but I wanna get in as much baseball as possible… and I don’t want to miss days working out.

Maybe I can find a week with not many games.

you’ll be out for like 2 days. then it may be sore, but you’ll be able to function. it’s really not that big of a deal.

I messed up as well matt. My wisdom teeth came in fine. However just recently they started hurting and then they stopped. This was not before I scheduled a surgery that would have them removed one 2 June. I am kind of regretting it now because I think they are fine. The dentist said I would only be sore for 2 days. :(

If you plan on flying at any point, you need to get them out. I just went to the dentist, and I still only have 1 wisdom tooth, but they told me if I was thinking about flying, I would still need to get it out

Fencersmother - regarding the astrounauts and their appendix, not true!!

Prophylactic appendectomy was considered as a recommendation at one time for astronauts, but has never been the policy. (Most of them still have theirs). This type of recommendation (gall bladder removal is also sometimes discussed) pops up from time to time, but has never been implemented.

Regarding the wisdom teeth, if they look like they need to be removed then have it done now.

There’s no reason to wait. You should only need to take a break for a few days from your normal activities, assuming there are no complications. I waited to get mine out until being at USAFA, and I can say it would have been less of a hassle if I had it prior to getting there.

Just got mine taken out about 3 hours ago.
