^ lol just wrote that to rhyme

anyways, my main reason to post this thread is to ask how generous rice is to OS people in terms of admission? (and no i don't want any silly percentages which i can find in its website myself) All i'm trying to investigate is of what caliber do they expect OS students to have. I know a simple guy (whom i think had fairly good grades) get into Rice. Rice is one of my 2 choices for ED so i would really like to know because i know it offers a very lax undergraduate living and a great academic challenge.

If anyone can, could some OS people send in their admission profile like: SAT, SATII subjects, APs (although i'm not mentioning my scores in application), extracurriculur...etc. Please, this is important in my preparation for next year. I'm known to do things last minute so my senior year resolution is to BE PROMPT lol (like that will ever happen, but i'm trying ;)

You know how we always say "i'll do it by this time" and then next thing we know it, it is the day before the assignment is due (i'm one of those horrible people).

And by the way, CONGRATS TO ALL WHO HAVE COMBINED TO MAKE THE CLASS OF 2015!!!

its a private college so there is no OS. Almost half of the class is from texas and i think its harder to get in from texas rather than somewhere else.
go search for the ED/RD results for the class of 2014 on this forum to get a jist of what caliber the students are. It’s really just a crapshoot though.

Uhh. don’t know what an OS is so cant really help you there. Sorry!
I’m primarily posting because I saw an obnoxious comment that I’d like to reply to…

@kaekae: Be nice.

kaekae, i don’t know why you said that comment since I was obviously patting the people who got in (Rice is very hard to get into).

and yea i agree with chartier that it’s so random lol but i just like finding patterns. I can’t visit rice b/c financially i don’t think my parents could and so that is why i’m asking all these questions (just to get the jest of how competetive it is).
My main question in this thread was basically whether i should apply ed for Rice or not (i’m an OS so i would like to apply somewhere where i know what my chances are; totally foolish to apply to harvard when you clearly don’t have the stats right? so yea).
Thanx!

OS=Out of State.

I’m from Maryland and got in. I had a 3.8/4 , great SATS/II’s, little to no “impressive” ec’s, and a revealing essay. My supp essay was very quirky.

We’re the class of 2014 by the way :D

If you want to come, and feel you can get in…please apply!

i hope so. Thx for the cheerful invitation tilgaham; you represent the school well!!!
I will probably have to apply RD b/c i have to take SAT IIs in november after SAT I. I hope this doesn’t ruin my chances but then i don’t want to have to report a 0 quality application form. Did you apply ED or RD? Congrats again =)

Now, saying Rice is a crapshoot is a bit of an exaggeration…

well yea i agree but in the sense that everyone’s stats are so good that the admissions people really don’t know what variety they want. It’s more like picking an unknown flavor of ice-cream because you might find the same stat people (clones) and the admissions have to go through all the mess in basically (i would assume) saying “eeni meeni mynie moe” (although this may be a little bit exaggerating the deal here cause they do have a formula; which the admissions never discuss about but i know from other top colleges that this is indeed true among competitive systems)

quote

Some do, but I was under the impression that the majority of schools who use a formula to determine acceptance are the large publics.

I have read multiple times that it is easier to get into Rice if you’re not a Texan, but this advantage is probably shrinking as Rice becomes more diverse…
