With these semester grades will I get admission rescinded

to give you a perspective: My OOS uw gpa is a 3.3

AP BC Calc: C
IB Biology: C
IB Spanish: C
IB English:B
IB TOK:A
IB History: B

IF i really work hard second semester and get a uw gpa of like a 3.5, will unc let my 1st semester grades be ok for admission

are u already accepted?

Rescind = take back, so yes.

yeh im accepted, do you guys have any perspecitve? Also had some family issues which contributed to this

I don't know, a lot of people say you're safe unless you get D's and F's, but you have a lot of C's there. Maybe a warning letter at worst, but I don't really know how strict they are about this. I haven't really heard about people who got their acceptance rescinded personally.

Hey sportd012 perhaps you should stop worrying so much about partying at UNC and focus a little more on the grades. Kind of makes people wonder where your priorities lie. Maybe you should decide before you go off to college. I have several siblings and cousins at UNC. The academics can be a killer man even for someone who starts with 10 AP credits. I know of several freshman who have dropped out because of extracurricular activity. Know what I mean

I'm in the same boat. I got a C in AP calculus AB and a C in AP Psychology. I'm likely going to get a C in AP Calculus BC (because it is a lot more intense than AB at my school and I tried really hard in AB so it wasn't a question of slacking off). So I'm looking at 3 C's in AP classes mixed with A's and B's. Usually I get A's and only a few B's.

If I get rescinded, i'll have no where to go. I've been accepted at some other state colleges but I can't fall back on them if i get rescinded by unc. give me hope guys!!!

UNC doesn't want first semester grades for students accepted EA. They will, however, want the final year report. If your second semester grades are back up to the level of what you showed them to get accepted, you probably have nothing to worry about. No one on here knows the precise level to which your grades would need to drop in order for your acceptance to be rescinded, but any significant drop is probably something to be concerned about, so keep working hard.

FallOutBoy why would you take Calc BC when you got a C in Calc AB?

Definitely make sure you improve for second semester in order to get your final grades up.

I got a C in calc AB too this semester but I'm not too worried about it because our teacher is pretty tough but her average AP exam score is a 4.8, so she definitely prepares you. I'm taking BC next semester as well and I'll probably get a C again maybe a B, but I don't think I'm that worried about that. Your two C's in Calc AB and BC aren't that bad if you got good grades in your other classes. I wouldn't be too worried. I don't know though.

3 C's = automatic rejection (rescission)

Snoz: Are you always such a jerk?

Fracasar: No offense but I really doubt you know what you're talking about here.

yeah...i don't think he knows what he's talking about either...

aish. I'm IB too but goodness those grades do not look too good. Um...I'd say you would probably get a warning letter.
You should never let anything detract from your concentration in school no matter what. Family problems can be killer but isolate that to the back of your mind and focus on school. Just because we're ib doesn't mean they'll excuse bad grades =] goodluck to you.

You probably won't get rescinded, that usually is reserved for students with SERIOUS drop-offs in performance. Just don't let it get any worse.

As for family problems...easier said than done, littlehamsterz. There are a lot of things in this world that are more important than grades and college acceptance letters. For most people, family and close friends fall into that category.

Hmm nceph I'm not so sure about what you said about them not wanting grades. I just got an email asking for mid-year grades.. Not a big deal but still that they are checking in makes me a little nervous :-P

UNC has a well documented history of rescinding offers for a drop in grades. A few years ago someone with perfect 800s on his SATs got lousy grades his senior year of HS, UNC rescinded their offer, he sued and lost.

yeah it has been mentioned a lot on this site. He got absolutely terrible grades. D's and F's, maybe one C.

Oh yeah, I got the mid-year grades e-mail too. I'm pretty sure everyone has to submit them.

I am extremely worried at this point. My grades are decent with the exception of one really bad grade. I have As in 2 honors classes, a high B in an AP class, and a D (74) in Calculus. It is by far the hardest class I have taken. Also, I have gone through a lot this semester, causing me to miss a lot of school and fall in grades. My step mother passed away due to cancer. My grandmother and aunt were in a bad car accident. My grandmother died in the accident, and my aunt has been in the hospital for nearly a month. This has caused a lot if stress for my family and I. Do you think I need to worry about a single D?

My son just got that email, too, and I was a bit surprised by it. They just want students to self-report, right? I am fairly certain that I read earlier that students didn't have to submit a mid-year report, but I guess what they meant in the earlier thing I read was that they didn't want an "official" midyear report.

I still think that they wouldn't rescind an offer based upon some iffy self-reported grades. Maybe they'll send a note of caution to students who self-report some low ones. Then again, I obviously don't know anything for certain. Sorry for spreading misinformation.

edit: I just went back and read my son's acceptance letter, and it certainly sounded as though they just wanted a final end of year report. No mention of mid-year grades.
