I was just wondering how one "W" (not a WF) would look on my transcript to admission boards? I'm planning on withdrawing from biochemistry because it seems as if I can't get an A (and I really need a 4.0 this semester to pull up my GPA) and because my research work is beginning to take up a lot of time. I don't plan on a withdrawing from a class ever again and I know I will most likely have explain this in front of them depending on whether I get an interview or not.

Well, I guess it depends on the caliber of school you want to attend. If you need to “pull up” your GPA (unless you have like a 3.9 or something and you’re very anal), then Harvard is probably out of the picture anyway. The advice is generally not to accumulate W’s because they do look like F’s, but my guess is one W will not hurt you. Bear in mind, Biochemistry is a “recommended” course by a lot of schools so they will be looking at that. My advice would be to take the B instead of the W, but again, it probably won’t hurt too much.

Thank you all for your input! Any other input would be greatly appreciated! :)

calculus - i am definitely planning on taking it again if i do decide to withdraw this semester. i am looking to either retake this intro level course or possibly go into the more in-depth, 2 semester sequence that my school offers usually for biochemistry majors. would you consider that to be i guess… a “save?”
