Hi, I have a close friend that I have argued with for ages about implications of having a W (withdrawal) in the transcript.
Here's the story. We are currently enrolled in a Top 20 University and he is an economics major in his junior year. He has dropped FIVE times so far (all with Ws, not WFs), one each semester. He would not do so well in a midterm (say around C+) and would just drop that particular class, reasoning that a W is better than a C+ and does not to think it's a problem at all when applying to law schools in the future.
His grade is good, but not stellar (around 3.5~3.6), and the school is not well known for economics (the business school and its finance concentration is well known)
LSDAS does not give penalty for W but I heard from numerous online resources and from my pre-law advisor and law school admission officers to not have more than one W if possible.
Could you guys give unbiased input into the argument?
