Here's my situation:
I currently go to another school in Virginia, but I got accepted to Virginia Tech as a transfer student. Since the deadline for returning transfer acceptance letters is June 1st, the same day the Financial Aid package info gets released for my current school, I decided I'll wait until then before I make my decision.

(For the record, when I applied to VT, i was 100% on going if I was accepted, but now times have changed and my current school grew on me and I like it here, so either way, I would be happy.)

Well, here's the thing - VT's Housing office decided to throw a curve ball at me yesterday by sending an e-mail stating if I want on campus housing, I have to submit an application by May 23rd via VT's HokieSPA student portal. The thing is, it takes 2 weeks from the date you turn in the acceptance letter to when you get your HokieSPA user account.

Even though I'm not 100% where I'm going for next year, I plan on throwing my $400 deposit down on Monday and hopefully get my HokieSPA info before May 23rd so I can register for housing. My plan is, if I get on campus housing at VT & the financial aid package my current school's giving me sucks, I'll just go to VT and let it be. On the other hand, if the package at my school right now is better, I'll just stay here because losing $400 is better than losing aid $.

With that all being said, If I turn in my acceptance letter to VT on Monday (when the post office reopens after the weekend), I should get my HokieSPA account BY May 28 (there's a chance i could get it before then). May 28 is 5 days too late for the housing app. Since Off-Campus housing is going to be a b***h to get this late in the game & I cant really afford to live off campus, if I don't get my HokieSPA info in time to register for housing, I plan on mailing them to withdraw my application and to ask for a deposit refund (which is allowed according to VT, http://www.admiss.vt.edu/apply/transfer/accepting_the_offer.php). They have the right to deny my request for a refund but do I have a case in terms of getting my refund? VT Housing never told me about the May 23rd due date until this past friday. In fact, the deadline wasn't even listed on VT's Housing website at all. Assuming I turned in my letter on Friday right after I saw the e-mail and assuming it took the full 2 weeks to process the account (therefore, the account is activated on May 25), it still would have been past the housing application deadline...
