If I end up getting into Cornell, am I supposed to withdraw all of my other applications (for Early Action schools) right away?

I don’t think you have to withdraw almost immediately, but you are expected to withdraw those applications. They never mentioned a specific time you have to drop by, but before the end of december would be safe.

OK cool thanks. I just have a kind of ethical dilemma; I want to find out if I get into the other schools I’ve applied to, but if I do get in I may be taking somebody’s spot (that somebody will probably get in anyways though off of the waitlist if I withdraw)

i know someone who got in ED at columbia, and didn’t withdraw his others, and ended up getting into stanford. sucks for the kids applying to stanford that year

Actually, I just learned that you aren’t supposed to withdraw anything until you get your official letter of acceptance.

^You are right. Also, for those of you who are in need of financial aid, it’s a good idea to wait until you see your financial aid package before withdrawing your other applications.

By december, most schools have already made their decisions about the applicants for the ed/ea period. I don’t think that you would be taking anybody’s spot if you waited to see if you get in because chances are you will be finding out within 1-2 weeks for that particular school. And I highly doubt colleges are still making decisions by mid december, when decisions are supposed to be out around that time.

Oh good call. Thanks for all the help and good luck!

it is taking someone’s spot for REGULAR decision, since the other schools think you are committed. believe me, i would have loved to see what other schools i got into, and to see if any colleges gave me scholarships, but cornell was my first choice, so why would i care about any other school, really? withdraw your applications. it takes a second

Here are the instructions from the Cornell Early Decision web page: “If you’re accepted at Cornell, you must withdraw any applications sent to other schools and send your acceptance deposit by the deadline in early January.”

To me, that implies that you need to withdraw your other applications by early January.
