Withdrawing Other Applications

Hey guys,

I got in Early Decision, and I'm wondering when I have to withdraw the rest of my applications by. I applied to a bunch of UCs, USC, and got into Michigan in their early response program. Also, should I wait until Cornell has received my $400 deposit before I withdraw my other applications?

I would wait until Cornell receives the deposit before withdrawing the other applications. After that, you can send in your "thanks-but-no-thanks" letters, which I would get done by February at the latest.

I would do it now. As the regular decision admissions cycle starts in January (or has already started in the case of the UCs), why would you waste the time of an admissions committee reviewing an app for a candidate that won't be able to attend? Not only is it inconsiderate (think how many applications these schools need to review--would you want someone to waste your time?) but it is not acting in the spirit of ED. You agreed to withdraw your apps once you were accepted. By now you should have the official letter saying you were accepted. Why wait? Waiting until Cornell gets your deposit doesn't mean anything. Believe me, if for some reason they don't receive it, they'll follow up with you.
