Withdrawing applications

As Match recipients, I know we are required to withdraw the applications that we've already submitted to other colleges. Is it okay to write a formal letter (very short and to the point) and then follow up with a phone call? Also, would I need to make notice to colleges who haven't received my application but have my SAT score reports and/or interview files?

Thanks!

My daughter called each school and asked to speak to the adcom that handles QB (typically there is only one, possibly 2 for larger schools.) She thanked them for considering her but that she was matched to another school and what did they need for notice of withdrawal of application. Most only needed an email, but a couple of them did want a letter via snail mail. Also on the letters that you send via postal mail, include your email and ask for them to send you verification that they received your letter.

You don’t need to do anything for the other schools as your file is incomplete, but it couldn’t hurt to shoot them an email as well.

Thanks! Just verifiyng, she called the other colleges that she ranked too then to notify them?

Yes, she called every school that had a complete file on her, including the schools she had ranked. One of the schools adcoms actually told her that they had chosen her for a match as well (obviously D had ranked that school lower.)

Oh, that’s cool! (about being ranked at even another school, haha)

What about incomplete files? I have sent school forms and some SAT scores to other colleges; should call them too to give them the heads up? Sorry if I seem dense; just want to make sure I am doing this right, lol. Lots of phone calls.

I don’t see the point in notifying any school that your file is not “complete” at because they won’t be considering you with missing documents. However, for your own peace of mind, you could just shoot a very quick email. It wouldn’t take much mind and that way you will feel better. :)

Thank you! I think that would be the best solution. I appreciate your help once again, haha. Our Questbridge mom!
