Withdrawing Applications

I have just been admitted under and Early Decision Plan to my top choice school. As a result, I now have to withdraw any other pending applications, and not initiate new ones, as the wonderful little letter told me.

Now, for one college, I actually applied and got a semi-result (it wasn't early action/decision plan.. their deadline was just at an earlier date because I applied for a specific program). They told me I made it to round two. Now that I've been accepted at my other school, should I send them a letter withdrawing my application? e-mail? phone call? What should I say in any of thsoe?

Next, my guidance counselor sent out the school stuff for my other applications: recs, transcripts, school report, etc. I have not submitted any of my essays, supplements or fees. Should I e-mail, write or call these colleges?

Thank you for your help.

Send a letter to each school that says, "Please withdraw my application to your school. I have been accepted under an Early Decision plan and will be unable to complete the application process. Thank you for your consideration."

If you want to, you can tell them where you're going.

It would be polite to send the same letter to the schools whose applications you haven't yet completed as well. That will stop them from reviewing your file every so often for completeness, and from sending you e-mails or letters that your application is incomplete.

You can also fax those letters if you want to make sure they get there quickly.

The other schools are used to getting these kinds of letters; don't worry about it too much.

And congratulations on your ED acceptance!
