So I accepted my offer for NYU yesterday and now I have to withdraw 3 UC Applications for Berkeley, Irvine and San Diego. Is anyone else struggling to withdraw them for the UC schools? They don't have contact email addresses for me to email, and when I call them, they don't pick up! Is there a certain deadline for me to withdraw all applications by?

I'm freaking out. I don't want them to take away my acceptance! :-(

“Write a letter to each of the UC’s you applied to stating the withdrawal of your application due to an Early Decision from another university. Include your application ID as well.”

This was the clearest statement about how to rescind your application to the UCs. Here is the rest of the thread:

Keep copies of the letters to UCs as proof in case the mail gets lost or the letter is misplaced by the school(s). Then you are covered, should any of this become an issue with NYU.

Oh this is so stressful I wanted to send it by DHL or Expedited Mail but I can’t do that since they haven’t given me the physical address of their office.

Sure, I will keep copies of the faxes that I send as well as the letter I’ve posted and emails I’ve written. Thanks!

Don’t be stressed out. I am sure NYU gives you reasonable time to contact the schools you have applied to. But good news!

I found out the official way for you to withdraw (if you have not gotten this info yourself) from all three UCs with one letter. Forget about faxing though you can do so wih UC Berkeley.

I know it is difficult to wait long periods on the phone when you are out of the country.

I got through and was told all you should do is send one letter to:

U C Undergraduate Application Processing Service,
P.O. Box 4010,
Concord, CA. 94524-4010.

In the letter to them, be sure to include:
Your Full Name
Your Applicant ID #
Your DOB
Your request to withdraw your undergraduate application and the names of the three campuses.
Your original signature.

The letter can be sent to them via regular mail.

I spoke to the UC Undergrad Appl Processing Service directly and they are the central office which will take care of forwarding your withdrawal request to the three campuses you name.

Hope this helps and alleviates your anxiety.

Is this a new policy where you need to withdraw asap? I remember when I got in some years ago, I did not go through a withdrawal process. I disregarded all other applications until I got my acceptances and then I mailed each school a return letter saying I decline admissions. The only important step after getting into NYU was paying your deposit to keep your spot.

evolving - THANK YOU SO MUCH I followed up your post with a phone call to ask for a street address for their UC Undergraduate Application Processing Service office and am on my way to have it sent by DHL. Hopefully by the end of next week, all my applications will be withdrawn and I can then relax. I really appreciate you calling them Thank you again!

commentcomment - well I’m not sure if its a new policy but I will follow through with withdrawing my applications the best I can because I don’t want to jeopardize anything with NYU. :)

No, it is not a new policy. It has always been the policy for E.D. acceptances at NYU. You may have missed it in the acceptance package and you’re fortunate that NYU didn’t find out! :)

LOL, is this thread helping you or making you freak out??? I am not sure. I hope it is the former because it is not a big deal, especially where one letter with all required info will do it for the UCs, if you applied to more than one.
