Hello, y’all real quick I’m sort of in a pickle. So long story short. Do you guys know if it is possible to drop out of UCLA (while still being on ‘break’) and go back to community college, and try to transfer to a different university with a different major? Let’s say I don’t get into my university of choice with my new major… could I, in theory, go back to UCLA with a re admission form? Or is the condition that one must NOT be enrolled in another institution while this happens. Thanks, everyone!
Yes, you can withdraw from UCLA and then attend a CC to transfer to another University. Make sure you complete the withdrawal process so you will not have any bad grades or money owed when you leave UCLA.
If you decide to go back to UCLA after taking classes at a CC, you would then have to reapply as a Transfer.
If you are asking to take a leave of absence, attend a CC and try to transfer to another university but if not successful you could return to UCLA, most likely not.
I would talk to UCLA admissions to discuss and confirm your options.

Surprisingly it says here that for UCLA, you can withdraw for one quarter and come back without having to do much. But yeah check with admissions if you plan on staying out for longer. I know at Berkeley you can apply for ReAdmission which the odds of getting back in are much greater than if you had to reapply again as a Transfer student.
I would still check with UCLA since you intend on taking classes at a CC which may or may not make you eligible for readmission vs. reapplying.
I believe the leave of absence route is better if you do not want to reapply for admission, which would be difficult to get admitted. Check with the admissions office.
ucla has this on their website
It may be more difficult for what you are planning, though; if by “term” they mean one quarter you’ll probably be out more than one quarter so you’ll have to ask them for guidance on if it is allowed and what you need to do.
