Woah...

What are some unique things about Columbia? I may apply if it stands out enough...

really? you might grace columbia with your application? lucky them

is this post a joke?

I like it...if you think like that.

It sounds pompous, but it is a different perpsective...

Like "Yeah. I can choose what college to go to, instead of them choosing me."

Aaahh...if only I were a genius and I could choose...

Wow, reading my post over it came out horribly wrong. What I meant is: what is unique about Columbia besides its location in a metropolitan area? I am deciding where to apply and I really like Columbia's location, certain majors and professors, etc.

Core Curriculum...

Is it just a coincidence that your question is the same as one of the questions in the Columbia application???

It's not the same...I am jw from current students and ED applicants what was so special about Columbia? I haven't visited or anything and none of my friends have applied so my knowledge is limited. But I guess that's what the CC community is for, eh?

Alright, nvm. I just found another thread about the same thing (my bad!). :)

Peter...I was just kidding...
Sorry if I didn't make that very clear...

But yea...I was actually at the campus on Saturday and it was really amazing.

First of all, it's a beautiful campus. When you're inside of the campus you don't even feel like you're in the city, but once you leave the gates the subway is right there, and you can go anywhere you want. You can still enjoy the city even if you come from a rural area, because during the freshman orientation they actually teach you how to use the subways and generally show you around town (they even take you to a YANKEES game!!!)

However, the campus was a lot smaller than that of UPENN, but I would much rather live in NYC rather than in Philadelphia...

The people in Columbia seemed a lot nice than the people in UPENN (I only met a few people, so this is just my personal experience). The lady who spoke during the information session at UPENN seemed to be VERY obnoxious and cocky, where as the person who spoke at the Columbia session was much more apporachable and casual (both were people from the admissions office who read the applications). The students at Columbia looked a lot happier than those at UPENN (Again...these are just my observations).

However, Columbia seemed to be very oriented towards the liberal arts (I think this is something that everyone knew except me...haha).

Last note: For some reason, there seemed to be a lot more girls than boys at Columbia...it was no where close to 50/50. Again...this isn't something that would stop me from going to Columbia.

Overall...it wasa good experience. I would probably choose Columbia over UPENN.

I actually did have one friend who visited. He said that the info. session lady said "Columbia is easily the most intellectual Ivy." Is this a rare attitude or do many Columbians feel this way?

Also, what is the post-college corporate recruitment look like?

Based on what the lady said anyone who goes to Columbia will be VERY "intellectual." The CORE classes really make you a well-rounded person, not just a typical 1 dimensional "nerd."
