Women in Engineering program 2015

is anyone attending this? Or have attended in the past?

What should I expect and how useful is it.

  1. What are the hosts like?(the people u live in a dorm with)
  2. will I get to party? (I know it's a stretch)
  3. Will it be bland?
  4. What if I have no prior knowledge of engineering?

Feel free to give UR advice and experience and etc

This is for the April 17-18 overnight program, forgot to specify.

My D went through WIE two years ago and is now a Soph ChemE at Cornell. It was a very good experience for her and was the deciding factor in her decision to go there. She had acceptances from Northwestern and Carnegie Mellon. She spent the overnight with 2 current engineering students and experienced dorm life, attended some classes, and ate at campus dining halls. They also took her through downtown Ithaca to visit local shops and restaurants… I recall about 20 to 25 participants total. She had no prior knowledge of Engineering, only high level understanding. Being accepted to WIE is an achievement in itself, so congrats - it’s very competitive. WIE gave her a very clear picture of what Cornell was all about. You will hear from Admissions reps while there - pay attention to what they say. They will essentially give you a high level outline of how to specifically prepare your admission application. Plus you get a app fee waiver. There was no partying and there is still no partying for her now. ChemE is a rigorous, highly demanding program and there isn’t much free time in her schedule. She socializes with friends but it’s movies, going out for dinner, and school activities. That being said, in return Cornell has provided early research opportunities and a terrific internship position with a global company for this summer. The entire experience is what you make of it. If you’re expecting a more social/party agenda, you will probably be disappointed. Keep in mind that your hosts are likely serious students themselves - they will probably balance their time with you while working on problem sets or other assignments as you are going through other parts of your visit agenda with school officials - so don’t be put off by this. I hope you enjoy the visit.

@mrgoodbar44‌ what do u mean by application waiver?

@mrgoodbar44‌ and thank you for that. I couldn’t find anything of that detail on the Internet.

The College of Engineering gave my D a form that ‘waived’ the $75 fee that we submitted with her formal application to attend the school. They essentially want you to apply to the school. Not sure if they’re still doing this or not for WIE attendees. Best wishes to you.

Wow sounds great, looking forward to it!

If I get accepted…HHAHA
