I was recently accepted to the University of Delaware as a transfer student (rising sophomore), but I am on the fence about attending. I am confident in the academics and location, but am concerned about the social scene.
From what I’ve seen greek life is pretty prominent there, and this is something I’d like to avoid.
I’d like to know from people who have attended or are attending UD, what has your experience been like?
Is Greek life avoidable, or does it really dominate the social scene?
Is there a nerdier (for lack of a better word) subculture?
People who were / aren’t happy there, what is the reason?
My son attends UD. He is not involved in greek life. He has said it can be hard for a guy to get into their parties. But he has his own group of friends so its not an issue. There are lots of housing opportunities right on Main Street with walking access to the campus and all types of restaurants and bars. He seems very happy with the social scene there. He will be entering his senior year and lives right off of Main Street. He lives there this summer and enjoys the summer scene as well.
Current student here, the Greek social scene is pretty dominant but easily avoidable. The campus offers students all sorts of alcohol free events during the weekend and sometimes certain clubs or dorms also host their own events as well.
