WORCESTER - What's there to do?

I love Holy Cross, but the town makes me a little nervous. Is there anything to do in Worcester? Is it fun? Do the kids mostly hang out on campus on weekends?

Overall Worcester is on the run down side but there are a number of hidden gems there such as the Worcester Art museum and the Hanover Theatre which are truly world class institutions. The city is slowly going through a rebirth since half of the state’s top politicians come from the Worcester area and so big money is funneling into the area like never before. Holy Cross also offers free shuttle service on Fridays and Saturdays to Boston and Providence which are both less than an hour away.

My daughter volunteers in Worcester, some parts are very nice and they have shuttles to stores. She has gone to Providence and Boston with shuttles on the weekends also which was nice and they went to the Blackstone mall with another shuttle recently.

First off, Worcester SUCKS. Don’t let anybody kid you. I absolutely love Holy Cross and honestly think the only negative is that it’s in Worcester.

Worcester is a pretty shady town, and you do NOT want to wander off campus (unless it’s onto some of the adjacent party streets, which are perfectly fine). But off of college hill there is nothing.

HOWEVER, there are still plenty of things to do, and places to go that don’t have to concern worcester. On campus there is always a dance club, parties, movies and the like to attend. I frequently go to Boston or Providence on the weekends, we have free shuttle during the day and night, which is super useful. You can always find something to do in both cities. A lot of people frequently visit/party at Harvard or Brown.

Blackstone Valley is pretty popular place, an outside mall with a giant movie theater. Plus the CAB always has events planned, like apple picking, museum shuttles, plays, haunted houses, ect. they had a bus to see Harry Potter last weekend at IMAX, plus they are always wicked cheap.

Weekends here are kind of crazy to be honest. Even if you are not into drinking. But everyone respects if you have work to do…which you will. The workload here is intense and EVERYONE has to take some time out to write tons of papers.
