Don't expect to go to Boston very often. It's an hour away on I-90 (45 miles).

Depending on your music tastes, check out The Palladium. It's a great venue.

Thanks arnoc for the info.

i am there for 5 years of my graduate study.

what are the typical things that you guys do for fun in weekends.

How safe is it in downtown Worcester?

Worcester has it's moments, but they're often far and few between.

Downtown is reasonably OK, within limits. Worcester is the 3rd(?) largest city in New England, so you need to take some care. Walking around downtown at 3am is (a) foolish and (b) boring (everything is closed). The areas around the campus are decent most hours.

There are parts of town you want to avoid like the plague. Other parts are beautiful.

Public transportation is mediocre, but the WPI campus is located near enough to most things you will want to go to.

I went to WPI back in the day. Our son just moved from Worcester to Malden, but he's liked it for the past 10 years or so.
