Words of Advice and Reassurance for Freshmen

WashU's newspaper, Student Life, is featuring several articles directed towards arriving members of the class of 2011. They are aimed at assuaging the fears and anticipating the self-doubts of new students, and at providing direction to guide them in successfully transitioning into their new status as college students. The advice and support seem appropriate to students everywhere. The online edition is:

Anyone know of other school newspaper offerings in a similar vein?

MAP, Thanks for this^^

I don't have anything online, but saw a book called College Survival Guide, "brought to you by the experts at CliffsNotes" which is kind of ironic, with academic and lifestyle tips.

Brown's newspaper, the Brown Daily Herald, has a special summer edition from two weeks ago with advice for the entering class. I also bought two books, one for me and one for daughter called, respectively, "Letting Go: A Parent's Guide ..." and "The Naked Roommate." Both seem very helpful!

I think the University of Chicago paper does something like that, but since no one reads the paper, no one really cares.

I sort of recall that The Stranger sometimes/always does a, uh, unique guide like that. It's aimed at students in the Seattle area, but anyone can read it. Not for the conservative. www.thestranger.com

Do kids read anything in print anymore? S barely glanced at the advice articles. I read every one, of course.

Ditto here, jazzymom. I'd love to email DD the link above, but I know she won't read it.

maybe it is because those articles are a terrible read--it sounds like it was written by a 50 yo pedantic head of department and has no flow. The "naked roomate" is the best resource available for this.

I read the University of Chicago one while waiting on various drop-off day lines. It was pretty funny. I learned my daughter's dorm had a reputation for dormcest, funny cigarettes, and general weirdness. That certainly went a long way towards assuaging my fears!
