That’s an over simplification.
The job I’m working currently pays .50 cents over minimum wage, and has flex scheduling. This means sometimes I work up to 32 hours, but sometimes I work only 8. I don’t hate the job, but I don’t see it as anything productive.
The second job is part-time, weekends only, offering between 10 and 16 hours. It pays a dollar over minimum. It allows me to schedule my classes however I want during the week and is at an organization that is relevant to my career goals, and that I hope to interview at in the future.
Any advice/opinion would be greatly appreciated. Should I sacrifice money for a job that helps me in my goals?
I’m not any expert but I think if it helps with your goals you should take it. You’re lucky something that could help with your goals came in you never know if you could encounter another chance so you better grab it.
50 cents difference per hour is an insignificant difference per hour. Pick the job that best coordinates with your school/study time commitments.
.
It depends how much you need the money.
If you won’t make enough in the second job to support yourself, then it’s not really a question. You have to do what you need to do. You can either work the job where you make enough money to support yourself or you can take the job where you get more experience and work a second part time job to make extra money.
If you can make enough money at the second job for what you need (or can make it work), then I would absolutely recommend the job that will give you better experience. That kind of opportunity is fantastic, and working at a company that you would like to get a future job at is a great way to get to know the people at the company (who may be hiring or working with you in the future), to show your work ethic, and to get experience with how that company works.
