Work Load

Davidson has a reputation of students having a heavy work load. I would like to hear what some Davidson students/parents have to say about the workload.
Main question, is it a lot of extra work or is it relevant work for a demanding/challenging classes. Thanks

I'm a freshman at Davidson and the work here is definitely challenging, but its not impossible. For my classses (two histry, bio, and russian), there is no extra or busy work.

I'm also a freshman here, and I'm taking Chem, Calc2, History, and the required freshman w-course. The work load is definitely manageable... you will be doing work every weekday night, but it really varies to what extent (i.e. what classes you're taking and if due dates fall around the same time). Work tends to come in waves - tests tend to fall around the same time, and sometimes you will have a paper or something at the time time. Again, it is definitely reasonable and it shouldn't be a reason for not applying/looking into Davidson.

I am a sophomore at Davidson. The work load also varies with the classes you are taking. My first semester, I had a work load comparable to my workload in high school. This semester, I am in two lab courses, and my workload is pretty tough.

I also think the main problem is not that people don't have time to do their work, but that they don't have time to do their work and the zillions of extracurricular activities they are involved in. Davidson has an extremely involved student body, and with this comes busy students. I personally think the benefits of an active, involved community outweigh negatives, but you should come visit and see for yourself!!

I am a double major and I would have to agree with turtle - there are times when I am completely swamped but others where I don't have too much to do. Your course selection really determines a lot of your work load. I would say, labs, econ courses, art classes (seriously), and heavy writing courses are the most time-consuming.
