Work out facilities?

Hi! How are Hillsdale's work out facilities? I'm active/athletic and NEED somewhere to workout, run, swim, play basketball etc. Are students able to do this?

The facility is excellent.

[Hillsdale College - Campus Facilities Guide](<a href=“404 Not Found - Hillsdale College”>404 Not Found - Hillsdale College)

ROCHE SPORTS COMPLEX

The 60,000-square-foot Jesse Philips Arena contains a six-lane, 200-meter running track, a basketball and volleyball arena and four tennis courts. In addition, the building houses the John “Jack” McAvoy Natatorium, a combination pool/diving area, an exercise physiology and sports medicine facility, three racquetball courts, extensive locker room facilities, a weight room, a fitness room and coaching and administrative offices. The stadium, with a seating capacity of 7,000, includes Muddy Waters Field and Herrick Track, with a Pro Grass Artificial Surface football field and all-weather Mondo™ eight-lane running track. The College also has eight surfaced outdoor tennis courts. Students are welcome to use all of the facilities during the open hours.

who cares how the workout facility is…i could remain ripped in a basement with 2 dumbbells and a protein shake.

At Academy_Girl: I visited the athletic facility during my tour of Hillsdale. Its top notch. I dont train for any particular sport, but I am athletic and cant wait to use the facility :)

At transferkid21: Get a life or change the nickname to “grumpykid21” (anyone else think I ll get an infraction for this ??? :D)

transferkid,

At the rate colleges are building and/or upgrading their recreational facilities and gyms for students, I think an awful lot of people care about them. It’s certainly not a reason to select a school, but does help to know you have a good facility rather than some of the old, smelly buildings of days gone by.

thanks for the reply! yes i visited and they looked great.

i guess i was just wondering how the accessibility is for normal students? as in, not just for varsity athletes?
(i’m from southern california, and am used to being able to run outside - not really an option in michigan winters!)

also, do any of the women’s dorms have their own work out facilities? maybe a treadmill?

thanks!

lol im just messin–apparently thats considered blasphemous on this site.

it can be difficult to get in depending on what area you want. the basketball courts/indoor track and weight room. none varsity athletes usually cant use them because either the volleyball, basketball, team, or the track team (especially the throwers) are using them. so this means like 3 until around dinner time. the weight room isnt too bad, but gets packed at about 3-6ish. the pool has specific hours, but i dont think its too hard to get to find a time to use. i haven’t noticed treadmills or areas where there could be one in the dorms. u can run outside in michigan winters and lots of people still do, its really not that bad usually with under armour and warm clothes.

transferkid,

Not blasphemous at all. We like kidding. However, I’m sure you know that it’s sometimes difficult to tell what an author’s intent might be - especially in the quick notes we write here. :)

what about early mornings?

momoftwins-touche

early mornings are probably fine i assume seeing as how i usually see all the other teams in there later. i never really go in there early ha. i think the swimming team might swim early

There are new intramural facilities coming to Hillsdale, including climbing wall, room for all those treadmills, etc. They had a big poster/area up at Parents Weekend. I believe it is to open in about 1 year. Looks beautiful - a great addition to the campus. It will be between the new Grewcock and the old Dow Center (I think).

wow! these new plans sound EXACTLY like the kind of stuff I need!

wow! these new plans sound EXACTLY like the kind of stuff I need! I really hope this happens QUICKLY!

If/when you tour Hillsdale, they had the posters up in the Dow Center. Ask your admissions officer if they are still available. Should be around in Central Hall; just ask.
