How advisable is this? Is it flexible so they can reduce hours if it is too much? Or better to avoid? Do you lose the option for Soph yr if you turn it down for Freshman yr?

bump...i am also wondering about work-study

Yes. If you do not use your work study your first year, it is very unlikely you'll receive workstudy again.

Hours range from employer to employer.

What is work-study?

My son is on workstudy at Cal.

It has been a great experience and he works approx 10 hours per week (they fit it around his schedule).

The FA office said that even if you don't use it one semester, they will still offer work study the next year if you qualify.

what kind of work do you do under work studies?

Interesting. I got a completely different answer from the Work Study office.

unlimitedx

I hope the response we got holds correct. For some odd reason, my son worked all of fall semester before discovering that he was on the regular payroll and not work study. He contacted the FA office and they said not to worry, it wouldn't effect the work study portion of his FA package for the following year as long as he still qualified for it.
