i've emailed like oberlin like 5 times and asked them about how to get a job a the library or something. they've ALL told me to look at the classifieds.

UMMM I"M SORRY, but there are like 2 jobs that i MIGHT be able to do.

is it just me or is everyone frustrated at the lack of communication of oberlin regarding work-study?????

and currently there are 24 student job postings. most of which don't fit me at all.

how is everyone getting their jobs? parents, how did your kids find jobs on campus?

My guess is that a lot of jobs opening up in the fall (i.e., in the libraries) have not been posted yet. Many students do not line up jobs until they actually arrive on campus.

My son has had work study for most of the time he has been at Oberlin. He started first semester freshman year. He waited until he got to campus and then started looking. They will have information about it at student orientation. He ended up working as a math tutor and has done almost every semester.

My son has had a similar experience to Shennie. So far the Oberlin experience has taught me not to stress over every little thing - it all seems to work out fine. Hand yourself over to the Oberlin experience and breathe deeply - it will all be fine.

As others have said, wait until you get on campus. That’s also better, because you should have an idea of your final schedule and other commitments before you pick a job and hours to work.

My D was just notified that she got the work study job she applied for last week via Oberlin email classifieds. It’s not a ton of hours, but for her very first semester at a demanding college, I don’t want her working a ton of hours.

She got the job, just like that. She’s amazing.

relax. once school starts, there’ll be more job opportunities than you’ll ever need. If nothing works (which isn’t possible), res-ed will be delighted to have you. All you have to do is go there and sign up for the hours you want. as someone said before- don’t stress over every little thing- it will all work out fine
