I had an interview at Best Buy on Monday, and they called me for a second interview on Tuesday. That fact alone makes me feel really good because the guy who did the interview said it would probably be about a week for me to get a call if they wanted me to come in for a second interview.

So anyway...The second interview is with the general manager, and it's the final step before they decide whether to hire you or not.

Does anyone know what it's like? Tips?

I've done 4 interviews so far (NYPIRG, Pac Sun, Target, Best Buy), and they all went well (I got the job at NYPIRG and Pac Sun, and got a second interview with Best Buy)...But I really want to get this job! I need a second job to make sure I'm working enough, and Best Buy is a store that I like a lot, but don't shop at often making it a near perfect place to work.

As to what to wear?

I'm thinking white polo and gold-ish pants. Is that OK?

Also, anyone have any experience working at Best Buy? From some things I've read, it seems great. And that's the impression I got when I went in for my interview. However, I've also read that working for Best Buy is absolutely terrible...Opinions?

no experience working at BB. However, what is always good is to research the company if you haven't already done so. Go to their website and scroll down to the bottom, click on the link that says About us, it gives invaluable information, which can allow you to go in with a wealth of knowledge going into your second interview. For example, if you read that their international growth is on the rise. You may want to say something like, "In my research about BB I notice that international growth is on the rise, what concerns do you have in this going on the decline?"" Not in such terms but along those lines. Another good idea is to go to the store and talk with a few employees, ask them what they like about their jobs, what don't they like. Polo and Khaki seem fitting. GL!!

I would love to work at Best Buy. The one that I live near is in a really progressive and fast-paced environment. I think I'd thrive off that energy.

I agree with the above poster -- polo and khaki seems like a proper thing to wear to your second interview.

I work at Best Buy part time as a Computer Specialist. What did you intend to do at Best Buy?

I've worked there since April 2008.

By the way, your first interview is actually the questionnaire that asks you those weird questions on the website when you applied. It sounds like you were called in once and are going again. Business casual is how you should dress. Khaki pants with a brown/black dress shoe and a polo t-shirt all with a belt. This is what you are required to wear as an employee.

Best Buy is great for the employee discount on some items. 5% above cost is what we get items for.

I was hired the first time when I went into the store after my application. It really does help to know people there. I put one of my best friends as my referral and he put an excellent word in for me. I happen to go school with 3 of the people who work there.

There are goods and bads to every department. Post which department you want to work at and I'll tell you some more about it.

After you're hired it takes about 2 weeks to fully start working. A weeks worth of training (boring videos, etc) and then you get about a week or so on the floor. Following training, you get your blue shirt!

Just make sure to have fun while being the best!

Do you get paid by commission at Best Buy? And are you only planning to work for the summer? I heard big stores like Best Buy don't like to hire students during the summer because they'll probably end up quitting once school starts up in the Fall.

Managers and higher get bonuses if their employee's do well. Normal on the floor people are not on commission. Best Buy does hire seasonal workers.

I was thinking music and movies...Mostly because I know nothing about everything else in the store.

OK, so I guess this is my third interview...I did the online application, got called, went in, and got called to come in a second time.

Are you paid during your training? If not, then it's probably not worth it. I probably won't work once school starts since I already have a job that I LOVE...I'm just looking for some extra hours.

Media (consoles, movies, music etc) is great if you know your movies and music. If you like to sort movies alphabetically, then this is your section. If you're like me, then you would hate it. Some people like it, though. You're going to get asked "Do you have any Wii's in?" a lot if you go into that section. heh.

How many more weeks of summer do you have? If you plan only working there for 2 months, I don't know if it would be worth it, to be honest. By the way, working at Best Buy just for the discount is what some people do. There are big discounts on big ticket items. Car audio and TV's are just to name a couple. You get your discount after being at Best Buy for 30 days.

You don't have to choose music and movies, because everything in the store can be learned. Being able to sell a product is better than not knowing how to sell product and just know technology. Having both is the best thing that you can have.
