So I know, its college and it wont be easy. But I was wondering exactly what the workload is at UMDCP. Right now I'm taking 4 AP classes (Econ, Physics, Lit, BC Calc) and last year I took 5 (Chem, Lit, Music Theory, AB Calc, US History) and I guess I can handle the workload from them, all A's and B's. hopefully getting some of those B's up after marching season is over. But how does the work at UMD compare to what I'm doing right now? Oh, and my major will probably be physics.

A lot of readings. You’ll be having a lot of time to finish it, since you’re not gonna be in class that many hours per week. Sounds like you already got a good preparation for college.

My son had a similar background to yours and has easily handled 17 credits per semester. Don’t know about physics specifically.

My son also had similar experiences and he’s taking Physics + 4 other classes (I think he has 16 credit hours) and he’s not having any trouble keeping up.

D1’s first 3 semesters were pretty smooth. She’s pretty OCD about getting all her work done as soon as it’s assigned, so she adds a lot of stress on herself. She went to CP with 50+ hrs credit from APs. However, as she got into harder classes (higher level astro and physics) 2nd semester last year, and especially this semester, she has had a whole boatload of work. She was thrilled to be done with her “formal” math classes last year, but most of the Astro and Physics classes she has now is mostly math, anyway.

The higher of GPA you want to maintain, especially in higher level classes in your major, the more work you’ll have. What can I say? She has a 4.0.

Her sister is a double major in Spanish and Env Science…Most of her work is more reading, and writing papers. and I think there will just be more of the same as she goes through the semesters…
Of course, she dropped her Calc class on 2nd day of the semester…that will not be a fun time for her.
