World Scholars 2022

@pago18 I don’t believe there is.

My son was just admitted for Madrid.

Mine too :slight_smile: Are you going to go to the Decision Day? It looks like the Madrid cohort will have a session on the 14th but when I went to register, it was already full?

@ctmom222 My son’s email noted that if the session was full to contact a specific person. We attended the decision day last month but might still attend so he can meet other students also going to Madrid. I’ll have to talk to him about it this weekend.

My daughter was accepted to Madrid and is really considering going. We have a ton of questions. I am trying to get a handle on the difference in price between this and just going to UD. Also, trying to factor in weekly travel while they are in Spain . It’s such an incredible opportunity, almost seems impossible to turn it down. Congratulations to all!

@rollarcoaster18 my son is seriously considering Madrid as well.

From what I can tell (and what was explained at the presentation at the admitted students day) the only difference in cost is an additional $1,500 program fee, airfare and the cost of the visa (which is around $200). The fee also covers their second trip abroad (junior year).

Tuition and fees are the same and the program cost is $8300 which includes room, board, fees, insurance while abroad and some excursions. When I compare it to 1/2 the annual room and board figure of $6,432 its $1,868 more (so the $1,500 figure may have just been an estimate).

@cookies510 thank you for your response. So, that’s about $3200 if we estimate $1500 for the airfare. I am also hearing that the students visit many other countries and stay in air BnBs which will end up being costly. I still think it’s such an amazing experience. I’m just trying to put the pieces together. She was told at the interview that she would get something in the mail so we are waiting for that to hopefully answer some of our other questions. Thanks again!

@cookies510 sorry just realized you corrected it to $1868. Makes sense.

@rollarcoaster18 I think you can do better on airfare. I found flights for just under $900 RT from Philly and around $650 out of Newark. Flying out 8/30 & coming home 12/22.

@Cookies510 thanks! I’ll look into it. These weekend getaways will add up, but will be extraordinary! So much to think about!

@rollarcoaster18 - Hi- My daughter was accepted into the Rome program and is considering going, which is why I’m here, but I thought I’d share some info about travel since my other daughter just spent a semester in Budapest. While some places they stay can be expensive, there are almost always cheaper alternatives as well. Hostels can be great places to stay and if they plan far enough in advance, sometimes they can arrange to get a room for all of them to share. Some kids have more money to spend than others, and if she plans trips with kids who are a little more careful with their money, they can have some great experiences on a budget. Planning ahead is a great way to save money. Last minute travel is often more expensive. If a trip to Germany for Octoberfest is something people want to do, plan it ASAP. Be sure the kids read reviews of the places before they book. My daughter heard stories of people who went before her not realizing their hotel was in the red light district, and others who did not know they paid to sleep in a tent! A lot of times kids are tempted to travel every weekend, but the program my daughter was in told them they could not travel the first three weekends, and then they advised going away only every other weekend. They explained it like this: Since they are in classes most of the week, it’s also very important for them to explore the city they live in and the surrounding area on weekends. If they travel too much, they’re missing out on the full experience of living in their city. My daughter also found that is was pretty tiring doing all that traveling. She saw some amazing places though! Rome, Greece, Amsterdam, Paris, Croatia… Ah, to be young again! :slight_smile:

Hi everyone! I had my interview last week I was wondering if any of you guys had an idea about how long it takes to receive a response. I can’t imagine it would be long because of the May 1st deadline quickly approaching. Any advice?

@Sydney05 my daughter found out about a week after the interview. Good luck!

@elzbth - I wasn’t on this board for quite a while but recently saw your post. My daughter messaged you on instagram but has not heard back from you. Can you check? Thanks!

Thanks @rollarcoaster18 I just found out today that I got in. I’m going to Rome since New Zealand is full I believe.

@Sydney05 congrats!

Wondering if anyone got any sort of World Scholars acceptance letter in the mail. My daughter was told she was going to and despite the email and portal acceptance, she’s still waiting for the letter to come in the mail. I don’t think it will!

Hi guys. I was accepted back in Feb. I just checked my portal because I was bored and wanted to see financial aid stuff. Then I see this message:

Are you a World Scholar?

Congratulations! You have been selected as a candidate for the UD World Scholars Program, a four-year structured program of traditional and international experiences that begins with freshman fall abroad in Italy, Spain, or New Zealand. All candidates for the Program must participate in an admissions interview. Schedule your interview now by clicking on one of the links below:

Is this optional and do most ppl get this opportunity? How did they select candiadates in the first place? I don’t think I am interested because I want to go study abroad in Australia later on. But does this mean I was not accepted for fall?! I’m confused pls help!

Hey there, just checking to see if anyone else was accepted for Auckland, New Zealand?!

Hey! My name is Bethany and I am going to Rome this fall as well! I was just wondering if anyone else is still on this thread who is also accepted to Rome and we can connect!
