I’m going into my junior year, and I’m really worried about my acceptance into this university. I was facing extreme depression in my Freshman and halfway through my Sophomore year, due to a friend’s death. Unfortunately, this reflected really heavily in my grades, and I got a 2.9 GPA my Freshman year, and got a 3.2 my sophomore year. I recieved a 29 on my ACT, and a 1750 on my SAT. I’m involved in many clubs such as HOSA, Debate, DECA, but I am not very sports-oriented. I was hoping to go to MSU, but a friend of mine who got the same GPA and the same cumulative GPA (3.1) did not get an entry. What are my chances of getting in?
I talked to an admissions counselor last year, and honestly, your ACT is pretty good, but he told me they really pay a lot of attention if a student goes below a 3.0 in any semester so that will definitely be noticed by them. I think you should definitely explain why you got such a low GPA in the personal statement part of the essay to help gain admittance. Good luck!
