Worried about first semester grades

Okay, so I don't have my first semester grades yet, but I don't think I did that well. I took classes in stuff that seemed practical and intelligent (poli sci etc), but I really wasn't good at it and it made me really unhappy. I realized this was dumb and completely overhauled my second semester classes so I do anticipate doing better next semester.

My thing is, I absolutely hate my school (I go to McGill University). I've been miserable since about a month after I got here. I won't go into all the details, but the thought of spending more time here is...just not to be considered.

My question is, when I'm applying to transfer, will colleges deny me if my first semester grades aren't that great? I have apps due Feb1, and April1. Some of the colleges I'm applying to as transfer are schools I got into last year but didn't go to, I'm worried they'll deny me now. (I'm looking to apply to places like Fordham, Brooklyn College, and a few others.)

why don’t you like McGill?

I don’t fit in with the over the top hipster culture or the insane party culture, I feel the school doesn’t care about its students (perhaps heightened this semester by the riot police pepper spraying students, a strike that made it difficult for me to get medical care so I ended up in the ER, a professor for a class that met 5 days a week that didn’t come to class once ever, TAs not responding to emails and not being in office hours, etc), it also doesn’t have a great program for the majors I’m considering switching to. Some other ****'s happened. It’s just been a bad experience.
