Worried about my college admission help!

Hi. I am currently accepted in San Francisco State University, but I am just super stressed over the fact that I might be failing my Honors Pre-Cal class this semester. I got a D last semester and I am probably going to end up with another D this semester. I talked to my counselor already and we called SFSU and they said that they just needed to know about any D's or F's that arise in my grades. My counselor said that it was a good thing that we called so at least they know about it. Do you think it is possible for them to withdraw my acceptance? I am very very very very very stressed over my grades right now. Math has never been my strong point and I dont think I will have time to bring it up.

It depends on how you did previously. I mean, if you’ve gotten poor grades in math classes when you got accepted it’s probably OK. Just try not to do much, much worse than you’ve normally done. But I think that if you’ve gotten into a college, you’d have to do really badly in order for them to withdraw your acceptance.

Yes, getting a “D” could cause your admission to be rescinded. The college could very justifiably worry that a high school senior who couldn’t get above a “D” in a course would not be able to academically succeed in college since the student wouldn’t have parents, and concerned teachers offering as much help as was available in high school. The college would be concerned about the fact that you didn’t switch to an easier course or get tutoring and do whatever else was necessary to get a passing grade.

In addition, due to the economy, public universities are being flooded with better than normal applicants, and are worried about being overcrowded.

Perhaps (if your grades are due to you being stressed) you could ask the counselor to notify the school of this, maybe write a letter explaining your situation?

“I was stressed” isn’t likely to help unless there was something truly unusual going on such as having a parent who was dying. All high school students are stressed, and all college freshmen are stressed. Colleges want students who are able to achieve good grades despite normal stress.

Well yeah, while I was applying I had a D and put that grade down on my application and still got accepted. In addition, my and counselor and I called the college and notified them of this bad grade. All my other grades are okay, but my counselor said that it was a really good thing that we called the college.
