Worried About Potential Rescindment

So I got in RD with a 3.77 UW, and a C second semester in AP Phys1 last year (2-3 Bs most semesters otherwise). As of right now, I’m potentially going to be ending 2nd semester senior year with 2 Cs (one in AP Chem, one in AP World). The C in Chem is definite at this point, and my grade in World is likely going to drop from a B to a C with the addition of a few last assignments.

This is of course regrettable and a trend I’ll definitely do all the work necessary to avoid once I’m in college. However, looking at my situation right now–I’m worried about getting rescinded. My guidance counselor says it’s probably nothing to worry about, but I’m not too sure. I’ll be leaving the country for most of July, so I’d like to get this all sorted out by the end of the month. I’m considering a few options:

  1. Do nothing and wait for Columbia to get my year-end transcript mid-July
  2. Write Columbia a letter before I leave explaining, apologizing for, and promising to avoid in the future such bad grades (I've heard they require these letters in many cases from students with poor grades).
  3. Have my counselor write a similar letter, perhaps explaining my situation or attesting to my motivation and character? Not sure how this would work.

Does anyone have any insight into this? Any advice or words of wisdom are greatly appreciated. Thank you so much in advance!

Do nothing. Columbia will do the same.

I had to drop 2 courses last minute and didn’t end up doing an independent study I was planning on doing because of a death in the family that was very disruptive and lead me to miss around a month in school. I also got around a 53 in gym. We called my admissions officer to check if it was a problem and she just laughed and said it was entirely fine.

If you’re really worried, I would call your admissions officer, but I don’t think they really care. College is a ton of work so don’t stress yourself and enjoy your summer.

Welcome to Columbia!

I didn’t really read your post but you just need to send in your final official transcript after June. That’s what I did for Stanford. I got a B in AP US Gov and a B- in Health and nothing heppened. But then again, it was a scam and I’m going to go to Columbia, hopefully.

They won’t care. D’s and F’s (or E’s) they care about… You could get straight C’s and they wouldn’t give it a second glance.
