Worried about Rec Letters

So Originally I planned to have the required letters and two supplementary ones.
One is from my music teacher who can speak well for how I work in groups and practice really thoroughly
One is from my volunteer coordinator who said she mentioned a lot of leadership qualities

Today a close family friend/alumni/board member said she sent in a letter on my behalf on how she would want to mentor me if I got in and how I would fit in with the community and stuff.

Pretty much in total I have 6 and am worried that the admissions will get pissed off by this and reject me.

Is that really bad for my application?

Yes, your application is basically already in the trash. Sorry.

No but seriously, I don’t think it really matters much.

6 letters is over the top when 2 is all they request. It’s hard to say how they will react. If they want you, it won’t matter. If they don’t want you, it probably wouldn’t be (solely) due to excessive letters (ie not following instructions).

Have you sent them all in yet? If so, then there’s nothing you can do. If not, I would strongly consider not sending them. Cornell gets tens of thousands of applications, and reading the two required letters for each person is more than enough work for them. They state on their website, “You are able to send in additional letters, but please keep these to one or two.” They aren’t going to reject you because of it, but if it were me having to read all the letters I would be a little annoyed and it might be hard not to hold it against you later on.

Human nature to say if “high maintenance” during application process, better chance of “high maintenance” once here. When you have so many quailified to chose from, no one wants “high maintenance”.
