I'm applying early decision to a top LAC but I'm worried that my senior year grades will hurt me. I've taken the most rigorous schedule available to me for my freshman, sophomore, and junior years and managed to keep a 4.0 unweighted gpa, but it's slipping this year. I'm taking 6 APs (AP English, AP European History, AP Government, AP Chemistry, AP Calculus I, and AP Physics C) but it looks likely that I'll have to send in B's in Calculus and Chemistry (and A's in the rest of the classes). Will this hurt my chances?

Probably not, that’s quite a course load and combined with a 4.0 up to now, you hardly seem like you’re slacking.

Rest assured, if you don’t make it, it’s not going to be for the reason of grades or course rigor - it may be something you can’t control. All you can do is control what you can control, the rest is up to the admissions gods.

it shouldn’t, but you don’t have a choice they will see senior grades.

If it helps, I historically have had half A’s and half B’s and got an unexpected C on my report card. I made arrangements because of a (sort of) mix up. I arranged with my teacher to take a quiz again over the weekend and got my grade up.

My GC sent in my updated transcript Monday afternoon. When I met with her she said although she thought I probably would have been OK with the one C grade, particularly because I am in season and it was a hard AP class, and all the senior stuff and all that, she was pleased with my initiative in doing what I had to do to get the grade altered for ED admission because it showed dedication rather than slacking.

We’ll see. I won’t be sleeping as well as I usually do until Ed results.

Thanks, looks like I have one less thing to stress about

With your grade history as well as a very heavy courseload your senior year, I don’t think you have a ton to worry about.
